.......Won't be coming Home tonight as he took one too many rides on walleyed's "Water Fun Park Slide" without paying and finally got caught.
I put in my 11 Beaver/Otter sets in 17 days ago and had taken eight Beaver and had three snapped traps during that time period which could have been attributed to Otter Malfeasance.
I had caught an additional nine bonus muskrat there in a few rat sets while checking the Beaver traps.
Three of those traps were strategically placed on beaver dam slides in a narrow pinch point in the Middle Black Pond Impoundment.
It was a 15 minute walk Back in the swamp to check the traps far off the beaten path but after 9 rats, 8 beaver, and a nice otter all that exercise was worth it.
The 18.90 LB Male Otter as I found him. He was Traveling downstream over the water slide over the dam spillway. The Duke #330 put his trap snapping days to an end.
The otter pulled up on the bank:
There was a beaver in one of our Muskrat feedbed sets this morning held by two toenails in a #1 1/2 Victor longspring who lunged and pulled free just as he was about to be dispatched.
Then, There was another #1 1/2 long missing from a feedbed with a broken 8 foot sumac stake, with a beaver as the suspected culprit.
This was Odd as we used no scent at these feedbed sets.
Picked up another Rat in a bottom edge set at the Beaver meadow on Little Stony creek:
Bottom Edge Muskrat catch.
6 muskrat from Feedbed sets on Upper Black Pond.
walleyed with his otter victim.
The day's catch drying on the Old Towne Trapping Canoe.
Tomorrow is another day of Trapping. Hopefully there will be more in the traps in the morning with this front coming through.
Stay Tuned.
