Was talking with another trapper today. He claims NY is considering legislation to make snares legal. Has anyone else heard of this or is just another one of them there rumors ?

The NY State Trappers Association has been working diligently for over 25 years trying to get the use of cable restraints. We are closer now than we have ever been and hopefully within the next few years we will be able to use them.

I can't wait any longer. I took the PA Cable Restraint Course yesterday and because I live 3 miles from the PA border will start running CR's the day after Christmas. Come on New York...get with the program.
I am not sure we are any closer than we have been..From reading the bills and legislative action it appears that every year it goes back to the DEC

It's not going back to the DEC...that the Environmental Committee and YES, we are getting closer because when we started we couldn't even get a sponser! What would really help is if more trappers would get out from behind the computer keyboard and actually sit down and talk with there represenatives in Albany as well as other sportmen/women in NY besides trappers. What we need is a combined effort to get this passed as trappers alone are a VERY small minority but if we can get bowhunters, houndsmen, turkey & duck huntersand even fishermen to all focus on this it would be passed much quicker. The DEC is 100% behind this Bill and even have a presentation prepared should this get to a point where a vote seems likely.
