I trapped this beaver yesterday and realized it was missing a front foot. When I got ready to skin it I noticed that the skin and hair had completely grown over the wound. from the outside it was perfect. On the inside there was some scare tissue that I scraped off but the skin is almost perfect. Just thought it was pretty cool. Attachments:

I have caugt several similiar to that, it is best to open the leg hole up when you board it. they have a tendency to pucker and not dry down in the leg itself.

probably lost it in a logging accident. It's a wonder the DEC doesn't require them to use PPE.

Did you send a copy of the picture to PETA? They need the help.

I'm not convinced that this was a trap induced injury. Whatever caused it most likely happened at least a year ago and only proves how adaptable wild animals are. It obviously had no problem surviving.

I understand your position completely. What you seem to not understand is that pictures such as the 3-legged beaver would be used by the animal rights groups with no mention of alternative explanations. The general public, knowing nothing of trapping, or much of anything else regarding the natural world will accept the animal rights argument and support laws to end the activity.
