I've been trapping this marshy pond for muskrats and it has a lot of large rip-rap along the road bank on one side of the pond. Thought the rip rap may provide a good cubby to stick a rat carcass for mink. I've heard that if I stick a 1-1/2 CS in front, the jaws shouuld be up tight to the opening in the rocks. Does that mean the dog should be towards the opening (as opposed to the levers like I usually set)?
Should I stake the trap or use a slide wire out to the pond?
Any other tips wouuld be greatly appreciated.

I like the lose jaw towards the hole dog on outside. Slide wire is ok but probably not necessary.

Thank you Mole. My sons and I enjoyed your mink demo at Fenner this year. But we showed up a little late and missed some of these important details.
