I've been trapping for 5 years now and since the start i've wanted to catch a coyote, and for the past five years am yet to catch one... i have 4000 acres of my own to trap and trap alot of but can't seem to get a nice yote to step on my trap. If anyone would like to share a trick or two with me it would be appreciated, don't be afraid to pm a picture to me for more help, Thanks for all the help you guys have gave me over the past couple years ;D

It's all about location.....What type of ground do you have at your disposal....active farmland (dairy/crops), woods, overgrown farm fields? Typically the best areas are where two or more different features come together or travelways between those features (i.e. power/gas lines, logging roads, farm lanes, etc.) Have you seen and tracks or scat?

its all corn and soybean fields with some woods at each spot, i've seen tracks and scat and the coyotes themselves i had to chase one away when it was chasing my dog this spring. i have kishels coyote gland lure and i also am an avid goose hunter so have plenty of leftover carcasses, all the fields are harvested now, the woods have been logged within the past years so there are logging roads and fourwheeler trails down all of them.

I'm a brand new trapper so take this info as such. On my property I have this one 16 acre field that is overgrown for deercover. I went in with a brush hog and cut trails along the edges to make good runs for the yotes and figured it would make for great trap sites. On my way out I debated on cutting a lane down the middle of the field and choose to do so thankfully. I really expected the edge trails to pay off but actually caught two yotes off the middle trail. 44lb male and small female on first and second night sets! I also credit my success to the members on here because I asked tons of questions and received great information back! Both flat sets by the way, which next year will be my primary set because all my action was in flats, dirt holes were avoided, but hey it could of been me making crappy dirt hole sets?!
