I got a spot to trap with a few beaver. Theres 2 lodges on the pond, and its all open water now with these warm temps.
Ive trapped beaver with 330's before and I have had good luck. And wanted to catch one in a foothold. I put out two Victor number 4 dbl longsprings yesterday. The beaver have a few slides/paths up the bank so at the bottom I made 2 little castor mound about 15yards apart and set the traps in about 3-4 inches of water and off to the side a little.
Today when I checked I had 2 empty fired traps, one half way down the drownder and one all the way down. The wire isnt kinked or anything which leads me to belive it didnt fight it and pull out.
Any suggestions?

Set the trap a little deeper. I target the back foot and place the trap "fist to elbow" length away from the waterline in about 8" - 9" of water.
Others can probably give you input on the use of poke sticks to get the beaver to drop its feet, however I rarely use them.

If they already found my castor mound and smelled it will they come revist it?

They may. Especially if there are multiple beaver or if you didn't pinch the first one too hard.
Sometimes I'll switch up and use a different type of castor lure.

Sounds like they chest bumped the traps.you might have educated them . Use poke sticks to keep this from happening. Place them pointed twards the pond at about 11and 1 from the trap as you look at it from shore. just higher than the trap jaws. A different bait will help . Also hide the trap in the mud.

make sure it is off center. Imagine a beaver putting it's back feet down to push up and out... Their butt settles down and the feet do too. Poke sticks: Before the trap. Set sticks at an angle out towards the water. Place so tops are under the water.. Beaver swims up.. Chest hits sticks.. Feet come down. If it is a castor mound the beaver MAY have a load of mud to cover it.. I would try another lure, but have got them one the same. Just add some more to PO them evne more
