Hi everyone! I got a few doz #1 ls and #1 1/2 coils last week, and I want to rig them up with drowner locks like my other rat traps are set up. I wanted to save a few bucks so I went to tractor supply and picked up some washers. I cant figure out how to make them work as drowner locks. I bent it and drilled two holes. Would I hook it up just like a regular L drowner lock? Thats what I have so far, Why did you need to use washers if im not using the hole in the middle? Bryan

do you have swivels on all of them? just use the swivel as the drowner.

These coils and longsprings do not have swivels or I would use them, like I did on my other rat coils.

your washer locks should work like a regular l drowner but honestly you should put a swivel and use the swivel or a swivel attached to the drowner. always good to have a swivel on the end for every trap.

Why would you use a drowner lock on 'rat traps unless you expected a 'coon?

Why would you use a drowner lock on 'rat traps unless you expected a 'coon? I always make slides with the stake at shore and a stake in deep water for rats and mink. I guess I just always have done it that way. What else should I be doing instead? Bryan

I've always kept my 'rat trapping simple and haven't had a problem with just staking in deep water without a slidewire. You have to keep in mind that a 'rat or mink weigh roughly 1/4 to 1/2 the weight of the trap you're using and that alone is enough to accomplish the task at hand. I always ensure that that the trap is staked solid enough to hold a 'coon or beaver should they blunder in, but I can set twice as many traps in the same amount of time forgoing the extra hardware. Everyone has their own methods and I'm not saying that I'm right & you're wrong so don't change if you feel comfortable with the way you currently operate.
