I found this scratched up ground while setting some traps today. I found three all together. Each one is along a woods road on my property. Only this one had scat by it. First thought was a deer scrap but upon further investigation I'm leaning towards something else. Not sure what though. There's two pieces of scat on the right side that's fresh. It's by the green leaf that sticks up a bit. I'm thinking coyote but I've never seen the ground scratched like that. Any ideas. Attachments:

I got a cocker spaniel that does a scratch like that as he walks away from his scat. Just sets his front feet and kicks out one back foot at a time. Steps forward and kicks out again.

Maybe was rolling in something, then decided to make that his spot.

Three spots, together, on a logging road? I'm thinking turkeys scratching and the scat came afterwards. ??

I hope the turkeys don't come back anytime soon. They'll have new foot wear. Same road but the road turns often with different elevations. Only odd thing was the scrapes were on the same side of road and on the high side of the rut. I wasn't sure if yotes rolled on the ground to leave their scent.

Took a while but thanks to the snow I figured out the scratch marks were made by coyotes. I was walking in Sterling Forest today and saw the same type of ground markings. This time the tracks in the snow made it easy to figure out.
