Hello, Has anyone tried fox meat for a canine bait? If so what was the reaction? Ed

ed other than a curiosity type visual bait, that isnt really meant to get hit, the only other experience i have with them as a bait per say is.... when they get hit off a draw pile, seems the red carcasses are first to go then the greys .... coyotes usually get cleaned up by the ravens, turkey buzzards and eagles more or less right at the pile....while the foxes will be scattered drug off the piles for some distance... at times i think they are more like a chew toy than actual food and a good percentage of the scattered carcasses are in actuality getting cleaned up by the birds.... sorry that im of no real help to your question....jim

For what it's worth, I have used the meat from red fox as bait, in dirt holes, when trapping red fox latter in the season. I have also used whole, individual red fox feet for bait,.The meat was slightly tainted as it was retrieved from my carcass dump area, and caught earlier in the season. I felt that it really didn't work as a bait although there maybe was some curiosty factors at play, especially with the feet. I did catch other fox at those sets using it as bait but I also had used a good lure as well. If they looked in the hole they got caught, nothing special was noted. I caught both reds and greys, but not coyote.I only used red fox parts.

I have used fox feet in the past with good to middlin luck. Was actually in mind for using them this season. Great to dip in lure and throw down hole.

Hello again, Thanks for your input. It was about what I expected. The feet are good for a visual. The birds clean the carcuses up. The pull toy idea is something I have seen too. Thanks Ed
