One of my co-workers hit a fisher in northern Cayuga County on his way into work this morning. We have a collectors permit and have several mounts on display in our lobby. We are currently in touch with the DEC to see if we can keep the fisher under the permit. If we can keep it, is it worth mounting a fisher that died today. I think I've heard that mink can get rubbed up this late in the season, do fisher? If so, will it make a big difference in a mount on display for public education?
Also, I have mounted a number of waterfowl before and was considering trying to mount the fisher to save the office some money. Just wondering how difficult it would be. Skinning and fleshing wouldn't be bad, except for the fact that I've never skinned paws before. Also, do fisher skins need to be tanned before mounting?

Wow hitting a fisher has to be a once in a lifetime deal. He better go play the lottery.

Thanks.
For now the DEC has the fisher. The ECO looked at our permit and said we should be fine with it. But he had to take the animal anyway because the biologist wanted to take a look at it. I'll call the biologist next week and hopefully we get the fisher back.
