Here is something you might be interested in. I live in timber country an I make sets at old log landings. This is a take off kinda of what was referred to as the Government set. I use two pieces of pulp and dig a trench hole under them. It is a nice little set. If you like it use it. Take Care Ed

Nice set Ed. How deep do you dig the trench or doesn't it matter? I assume that you put the bait under the logs. Have you found any 'yotes entering from the side opposite the traps and digging for the bait from the top ?

The trench is 4-6 inches deep. just what you need. Bait and or lure under pulp. If you want you can fill in one side and blend in if you have a smart alec that wants to back door you, They cant move the wood and the odors will come up through it. There is nothing cut in stone here.a urine post set on the end maybe. whatever. Have fun

Great set, I'll have to give it a try this year. I trap a few spots where it should work great.

I have used a similar set where there is already a log on the ground. I take my boot and skuff a hole trying to make it look like a woodchuck is living there. I've taken many grey fox with that set.

I heat with wood so there are pieces of wood on the ground like that all over. Thanks for the tip Ed. There are a lot of possibilities with this set. It would be easy to adapt to a lot of situations. You could pick up a critter digging out the hole, trying to climb up or down from on top of the pulp, and you could set the ends like was said. Great tip
