what odd ball sets produced for you this year, we had one that was giving me a chuckle, blind set in an old skid road ditch on the side of a mountain, between two brook heads, that were about a mile apart. ( road was behind locked gates) both brooks had established beaver dams on them.
the mink were using the road ditch as a short cut from brook head to brook head, sure look funny sitting at the roads edge on the side of the mountain with no water anywhere in site.
another one that always gives me a chuckle is the running pole mink set, that we use at one of the fish hatcheries
we set it up (each running pole) with two conibears and have excellent luck with them between two concrete tanks as an easy pull out\ cross over set between tank dividing screens.
hatchery is within a closed otter wmu and often have the 110 conibears knocked over by the trout devouring otters that need protecting so badly.
you guys feel like sharing a couple....jim

not an odd ball set but kind of accurance,
we have two traps set on a cross over a 220 on the pond pullout in some hardhack, set dry and a 330 set in the river side, on the bottom of the slide in the water.
been watching were this mink has been using the cross over going through both traps, kind of kidding about how many times that sucker blew through and mabye we should blind set the little sucker.
theres an old story about greed and yesterday the mink was tring to bring the groceries home and tripped the 220 dragging a rat across the cross over. only had that happen once before that I can remember in a force set in the middle of a channel..... nice buck mink...... mabye we should of blind set the little bugger earlier, but consider him a winding down gift .....jim

Jim: I dont know if this is odd ball or not, but my partner and I were removeing some beaver for a town highway dept. from state land in late Nov. early Dec. every day checking the beaver trap I went past a 1.5 I put in by the culvert & every day in the snow Id see mink tracks entering the water by the culvert, but not going into the trap. One day in desperation I layed a large flat rock over the 1.5 set, about 6 inches over the trap, the next 4 days we cought 3 mink and a m--rat and a few more m-rats in the following week.

sure makes you think how a little adjustment and thought can take a more or less dead set and turn it in to a cracker jack producer........always found that to be odd.....jim

Odd ball MABY--- Good Yes My partner And I have set a gravel bed 1 mile out of town and 200 yds. off probably the most used highway in this area. The owner has reworked the ground and is trying to sell the land for bldg. lots. ( Lucky for us no sale as of yet, when its sold there will be 2 grown men crying.) One day about 6 years ago we were driveing past this lot and my partner saw a fox in his rear view mirror crossing the road. We talked it over and decided to set a couple of traps.( we had permission to trap this land.) We have cought 8 to 14 fox a year out of these two sets. This year we cought 4 dbls. out of these 2 sets, two of the dbls. were red and gray the other 2 were 2 reds & 2 grays, we also had 4 singles and 1 coyote. The set are 20 feet apart.

so ........ the famous question which fox did you catch first the grey or the red in your mixed doubles....... remember my father and uncle having the famous grey vrs. red conversations after the greys invaded n.y........ like the coyotes are now........same song just a different tune inpart....... even our greys are bigger than than most across the country, I would cry also if and when I lost a hot cross like that...... jim
