Any special regs? Hour limitations? Limit? Out of state license info?
Thanks!

Here is the dec page for it: www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8366.htmlHere is my experience with NY turkey: - get up at an ungodly hour after walking through the woods the night before and not roosting anything. - drive around like mad stoping here and there making strange calls and listening for gobbling -sunrise comes and a gobble - chase gooble for hours as it gets further and further away - call in a red fox or two because I sound like a dying turkey - fall asleep by a tree - give it up at noon - rinse and repeat Sean

I was just wondering what population was like, hunting pressure and such.
Sounds almost like typical Pa turkey hunting

So you need a small game license + a turkey permit?

Yup, small game and a permit. The hunting varies greatly by county, but all in all I think it is good hunting. I just suck at it . I hunt in south western new york and I see birds all the time in the spring. I think the biggest problem there is coyotes. It really makes the birds tight lipped. We have called in more than one yote turkey hunting. Hunting pressure is fairly high, but usually, guys give you enough space on the public land I hunt on.

Spring turkey is probably one of my favorite seasons, a great time to be in the woods. Pops haven't been great last couple years due to some poor (wet) nesting conditions, but the winters haven't done many in. Best hunting is on private land if you can find it, after that the larger state lands where you won't have others too close.

New York has to be one of the most pressured turkey hunting states in the U.S And we have a healthy population

My boys and I have been watching turkey hunting videos and brushing up on our calling skills. We cant wait for the season to open. Last nights snow fall reminded us winter isn't quite over though. 12-14" of the white crap. We turkey hunt Oswego, Oneida and Cortland county.
