I'm seeing a lot of pics of coyotes being taken in open fields or near the edges of fields. My questions is what type of set is being used in these places? Where my line is all the sign is just inside the woods about 40 yards or so leading into so ledges. Set in the woods or at the fields edge, wind is from the woods to the field.

Make your sets where you're seeing sign, the critters will tell you where they're at. Typically K-9's hunt the edges and that's where the majority of them are taken in farmland settings. If there isn't a lot of farmland around, they'll hunt the woodlot's and any logging roads, deer trails, etc. should produce

the best coyote and fox set i found for me is a dirt hole set on the edge a field. I make the hole about 4inches wide and atleast 6 inches deep with a big rock or log thrown on at the back of the hole and the trap in front. bait with alittle meat in the hole and uurine on the rock or log. this is what i use but use whatever works in your area. if the signs of the dogs r in the woods than trap them in the woods....

If in doubt, I would set both in the woods and in the field. Best way to learn is to experiment.
