Got out yesterday morning with my dog Molly. Ended up hunting with a couple other guys I ran into out there. They did most of the shooting while I worked the dog. She got 11 retrieves, including a pintail. It was a good time. Hope everyone else had a good weekend!

Thanks. That's Molly, she'll be 2 in January. I've really been looking forward to this season (her second). Saturday I was very happy with how steady she was sitting on that hummock.

Molly's a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever. They call them tollers because hunters would have them play around on the bank a little at a time. This would catch the curiosity of ducks off shore and they would then swim in closer for a shot. They say it was a behavior that was first observed in foxes, so they bred a playful dog that resembled a fox. I haven't tried tolling with her yet because I was waiting for her to get a little more solid on the obedience. Maybe soon. Tollers are the smallest retriever breed, up to 40# for females and 50# for males. Molly's got a lot of energy and drive in the field.
