From Dave Miller,
We are down to a matter of days before this legislative session ends. If we are hope to get things done now is the time.
There are two bills that we very much want but seem to be stalled in the Assembly Codes Committe; they are:
DelMonte 11033 which would allow 14 and 15 year old junior hunters to hunt big game while with a mentor and would allow children under 12 years of age to assist a licensed trapper under that trappers immiediate supervision before taking the trappers training course.
Magee 10322 which would allow the use of a trapper id number on trap tags as an option to name and address as currently required
Check the Assembly web site www.assembly.state.ny.us take a look at these bills so that you are familiar with them and then
1:send an e-mail or letter to Mr. Lentol who is Chair of the Codes Committe lentolj@assembly.state.ny.us and send a cc for #11033 to delmonf@assembly.state.ny.us and for #10322 cc to mageew@assembly.state.ny.us .
2:Send a similar e-mail to Mr. Silver who is Speaker of the Assembly and is properly addressed as Mr. Speaker. Send to: speaker@assembly.state.ny.us and cc as above to Ms. DelMonte and Mr.Magee.
The following is an example of a message that you may wish use, tweek to suit yourself:
Dear Mr. Speaker, (and Mr. Lentol separately)
As a licensed New York State sportsman I am concerned about two bills that are very important to me, they are: Assembly bill number 10322 by Mr. Magee which would allow the use of an id number on trap tags as an option to the name and address as now required, and number 11033 by Ms.DelMonte which would allow junior hunters 14 and 15 years of age to hunt big game with a mentor and would allow young trappers under 12 years of age to learn by assisting an experienced mentor under the mentors immiediate supervision.
I respectfully request that these two bills be placed before and reported out of the Assembly Committe on Codes so that they may be voted on by the full house before the end of this session scheduled for June twenty third.
Send this or something similar to both the Speaker and Mr. Lentol.
And you're not done yet. Now call both offices; Speaker at 518 455 3791 and Mr.Lentol at 518 455 4477. You will be speaking to staff which is exactly what you want Tell them that these two bills, Magee 10322 and DelMonte 11033 are very important to you and ask that they be moved to the Assembly floor for a vote of the full house.
Then call and e-mail or write your own Assembly member and ask for their help in getting these bills moved. If you write a letter it will need to be sent no later than tomorrow 6/16. It is extremely important that we are very courteous in whatever we choose to say.
Thanks folks and lets wish each other luck.
