Here the general area..... My packbasket is in the intersection of two mowed trails through some overgrown farmland and I've decided to put in 3 sets here, 2 dirtholes on either side of the trail just ahead of the intersection and a urine post on the inside turn... I found a stick and pounded into the ground with the trap bedded right in front and gave it a squirt of red fox urine. I made this set Saturday and it's been through 3 1/2 days of heavy rain & snow and extreme wind and today this was my reward..... Can't say for sure whether or not the urine odor was still evident on that stick, but I feel the location made it work....Here's the remake.... All set for another one tonight Hope this helped somebody....Wayne

If it there wasn't any urine scent left on the stick how did you catch the fox? He just wanted to mark his territory? Sure would be hard for me to have confidence in a set like that...

It was certainly location, but I'm sure that that fox picked up the odor of urine even after all that rain and wind That was actually the backup set to the 2 dirtholes, this area was trapped last year and seeing as that the 2 dirtholes weren't worked at all

Great location ,pics are always good ,I look at that red alot.It reminds me of the krause book catching the smart one on a pee set bypassing his hole sets.If you set it this year ,gonna try some differant sets besides dirthole? Is your pack at a T-Man stall out location ?

Dirt holes are my primary K-9 set, I did pick up a raccoon in the dirt hole set of to the left a couple days later. I always try and set a minimum of 2 sets per location and they're usually both dirt holes, I just decided to throw in a post set as well....glad I did

i have been thinking about the two location posts while i am out turkey hunting and have found some good spots to set next season. it helps when you see a red fox running along the path right where you plan on setting traps ;D

It gets in your blood...I drive a lot and I'm always looking for travelways and set locations even though I know I'll never trap that area, really makes finding your actual locations on your line if you're always looking for them

I often make a set close to the main attraction w/ NOTHING on it , often I catch fox or coyotes in this set before the main set often its a double . think about your dog when he gets excited , whats he do? and to the first available object too!

FI - To me that is one of the best paragraphs thats been on here in a long time.Thanks.I have some stuff brewing that should be a skunk/coyote magnet, hopefully the skunks will go where there is no trap and the coyote to where there is no smell. You know what the lure or ingrediant is that would cause a K-9 to leave a turd?Location- if coyotes are the king of farmland do the reds move to the big woods ,pine plantations and ridges? How about culverts under county roads?Have you ever givin them enough chain to go back under the road a little if caught?

As the coyotes move in you'll catch your reds closer to towns, villages, people's backyards....not literally, but you get the idea. As far as geting your catch hidden, this isn't new and I don't know how long it's been around, but use a drowner lock and slide to get them back in the weeds, a culvert, etc.

I know Wild Bill Kasten did a demo at last years Rondy on using sliders . I use them in alot of places where i want to hide a fox even if it is off the road aways . I slide them down over a bank or just into the nearest cover . Just remember this one important thing ---------------------- MAKE SURE THERE AREN'T ANY BURDOCKS NEAR WHERE THE END STAKE IS ! ;D Another little tip along these lines , I always put a stop up the cable a couple of feet so a coyote won't pull the stake .
