What type of game are you hunting? What shot size will you be using?
There are too many variables to really give a definite answer.

If you mean hunting at the same time I would use 5 shot with a modified choke and limit shots on turkeys to 30 yards.
That's just me though. My dad uses regular #4's not turkey load with very good results.
Chokes and shot size I feel is very important. We have flush many woodcock and I had 4"s in the gun and ruined meat. Now I just watch them fly away, when I do upland hunt that is.
Hope this helps. Maybe someone else can add what they think.

I have multiple chokes for both my Benelli & my Charles Daly, I just change them as needed. My 870 has a modified choke in it and I've shot plenty of pheasants, duck, squirrel, rabbits & woodcock with it. I have a separate slug barrel for it the 870 though.

I use a modified choke if I'm going to be shooting at anything thats moving. I prefer full chokes for turkeys but a modified will work fine as long as you keep shots inside 30 yards or closer, closer being better of course. I use heavy game loads if I'm hunting turkeys and small game at the same time.

I like a full choke for turkey and most waterfowl, modified for my upland birds. If pheasant hunting I use 4-6 shot, grouse/woodcock/rabbit I use 7-8 shot out of my 20 gauge. Turkey I use 3 1/2 inch copper coated 4's, geese 2's, ducks.
I think a full choke is important when after turkey and waterfowl (especially geese), I think a modified works for everything else and can be effective on waterfowl right over your decoys.
