Is that a #1 long spring?

yes thats a #1 longspring. I thought about using a #1 coil but that was before I realized that when it was set the springs were wider than the can and would require another cut. Also I think a coilspring would be too strong and may damage the fur. the #1 longsping works flawless. An acual rat trap is used a lot for weasels but won't work in these cans and I'm not using my #1 longsprings for much after any amount of snow so they were already available. Plain old rat traps aren't any fun either, I like the steel ;D

Weasels many times can be frozen whole and sold to taxidermists for more than being pelted. Fur value certainly varies each year but all white weasels, depending upon size, usually sell for between $5-$10 at the fur auctions in Canada.

Beaver works good, as well as anything bloody like chicken livers, etc. Weasels can be found around old rock piles, brush piles, stone walls, cattail swamps...basiclaly anyplace where there are rabbits, squirrels & mice ;D

i made mine a little different, same folgers can only i use a #1 jump. it fits right in the bottom with no extra slots to cut.a small slit near the bottom for the chain to come out and the entry hole about a 1/2" under the lid. the bait is wired directly across from the entry hole so he can see it. i drill a few holes around the can to let the scent out, and smear a little lure on the underside of the lid. mine are spray painted to blend in on rock walls......cheap,simple , self contained, and weatherproof........

|
Post by Itrapny on Nov 8, 2010 17:50:24 GMT -5
They will work, but a #1 1/2 longspring is the preferred LS for weasels as it's work's as a bodgripper.

the only traps i have are 2 11 longs, 1.5 coil, 1 1.75 coil, 3 110s, plus larger traps

#1 1/2 coils will work great, just on't use any pan tension as weasels are light

how would you cut the can to accommodate the 1.5. also where should i put these. i have mostly swamps and beaver ponds where i am trapping

Yoo can use gallon milk jugs with the same result. Weasel's hunt where they'll find mice and rabbits, so beaver flows and swamps are great spots

you could try, but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice, especially tainted as weasels like fresh bait
