I would like to know how to measure a hide like a coon.. 1) Do you measure it from the nose to tip of tail or from nose to base of tail? 2) Mink, from nose to base of tail or base of head to base of tail? 3) Muskrat..Same???
I need this to bundel like furs for grading...

All furs are measured the same; from the tip of the nose to shortest point at the hips. That's one reason why I like to use wooden stretchers over wire. I get a very uniform looking pelt and I know that when I tack it in that it's not going to shrink of come off the hooks.

For a put up beaver it's measured side to side and then combined. I'm sure it the same for green but I don't know the allowance between green & dried.

You should never actually stretch a fur, it's basically put on a "fur form". If you overstretch it, you actually stand a chance of thinning the fur and possibly receiving less money than more. I never measured a green fur because I don't sell that way. I know that all fur is measured once finished so that's what I'm familar with. A fur actually shrinks a little from the time you put it on the stretcher until it's completly dry.
