Trolled Fourth Lake today for Lakers.....There is fish piled up out from the State Boat Launch in 40-50ft of water...I tried every trick I could think of and couldn't get a fish....So I moved out by the Islands and fished 50-80ft of Water 50-55ft down; again I threw the works at em'....Managed to take one Nice Laker, I'm guessing to be around 6-7lbs (25-27")....I saw another that had chased a spoon right to the surface when I was reeling a rig in; It was a nice one! The fish I caught I took on a 5" Silver/Black Original Rapala Stickbait; fished plain with out any flashers or cowbells...I was down 55ft in 70ft of water...There were a lot of nice Small Mouths hanging out around the State Boat Dock at the launch in the morning...Here is the Picture of the Laker I caught...

Nah, I'm no king....I've spent many a day without catching fish! It took me quite a few years and a few dozen trips to catch a Laker up North during the summer! The Downrigger has made things a heck of a lot easier.
It sure feels good when persistence finally pays off!

Had a good day again today! The #11 Rapala Original Stickbait in Blue & Silver was the ticket....Took Three Lake Trout all 50ft down in 65ft of water....Again Fourth Lake (Out near the Islands) Straight out from state boat launch in Inlet....Didn't use any Christmas trees or flashers; just fished the stickbait plain. Here is the biggest of the Three...

If your thinking of going out on a charter boat for Lakers; look into fishing the Niagara Bar out near Niagara Falls...I have heard that the Lake trout fishing is incredible!! Canada too! Some of those lakes Like Great Bear have HUGE lakers in em'!! Like 40-50+lbers!!!! If anyone is considering using the methods in some of my previous posts that were catching us Lakers; It was a size#14 Silver/Blue Rapala that was hot not the size#11, although we did take one small Laker on the #11 We went out again this week for a few hours with no luck ...The Lake was rough (Fourth Lake) and boat control was difficult...It was an afternoon trip also with sunny blue skies...Seems as though early Morning has been the hottest time to be out there but I've yet to try tollin' Lakers in the evening?? Probably gonna head out early A.M. tommorow with the Dog. Next weekend a couple of friends and I are camping out on Seventh Lake & plan on puttin' in some serious time trolling for Lakers! Hopefully I'll have some good pictures to post.

Went out this morning at crack of dawn (Actually before crack of dawn) and fished till about 11am....Again fourth lake....Tried a few different rigs; the only hook up I had was again on the Plain #13 Blue/Silver Stickbait Rapala....For some reason the release never let go of the line....I managed to hoist the fish (It felt like a good one) up to the boat by pulling in the Downrigger ball....It made a run up near the surface and the line snapped Had trouble maintaining boat speed today but I've noticed that 1.6 - 1.9 MPH seems to be the most productive speed for me; catching the Lakers on Fourth this Past couple of months

Rookie,
I was up your way all of last week. You certainly have some beautiful country up there. I didn't fair very well fishing but got to see some bears. I heard a rumor that a moose was spotted near Brown Tract Ponds. Wish I could've seen it. Do you ever fish Eighth Lake?

Yes Don!; I fish 8th quite often; In fact I'm goin to Seventh thish weekend...Fishing is usually very good there in the spring; I've had quite a bit of luck casting crocodile spoons, letting them sink to the bottom & jigging and reeling back to the surface for lakers....Landlocks are fiesty too in the spring, usually stacked up anywhere a little stream enters the lake. This time of year drifting a worm behind a lake clear wobbler will get you rainbows...Casting Phoebes & Mepps works pretty good too...They net smelt their in the spring also. That's sweet that you got to see some Bears! Where did you find em?? Usually a few moose are spotted every year. We had one run through the Hayfield here behind my house two years ago! My brother in law saw it in the morning and thought the horses had got out....So he drove his truck out to get closer then he saw antlers & realized it wasn't a horse!

Rookie,
We stayed at Raquette Lake in Anna Suttons house across from Burkes Marina. I grabbed my video camera and walked out in the woods for some piece and quiet. I just got sat down when I saw some movement about 50 yards ahead of me. I got the camera pointed in the general direction when a spike buck walked out onto the path. I watched the buck for about 5 minutes when he was startled by something. No less than a minute after that deer ran away, a small bear appeared about 30 yards away! I was surprised to see that critter out moving at 4 in the afternoon. Needless to say I only got his rear end on video as I was pretty shakey about being that close. We also saw a small bear at the Raquette Lake disposal site. About 10 yrs ago I camped at Limekiln and saw many bears on a regular basis- nothing this time though. Any reason why they could be so populated back then and not now?

Not sure what could cause the population differences maybe weather or food cause them to migrate to different areas??
Don't blame you about being weary with the bear!! Those Bears are very solid critters! Some times the Smaller ones are most dangerous cause; if momma's around she can get very protective.

Spent this past weekend up to seventh lake....Managed to take one laker on a Black & Silver Floating Stickbait Rapala Size #11, fished about 50ft down over 70ft of water....Fish seemed to be located anywhere there was deep structure and big drop offs...Could see them with the electronics...Might have faired better fishing these areas with minnows or jigging...Areas are hard to troll because of sudden depth changes...

Here's a recent shot from an Adirondack Lake Trout fishing trip that some of you may enjoy seeing. Sometimes "The Bite" is more than just fish actively feeding...

My friend in the Pics who caught the Laker has been camping up to Indian Lake for many years. He knew exactly how to get to the deep hole....Thank God because we couldn't see 100ft in front of us with all the fog!!! He fished it growing up by jigging with lead core line....He also brought me to the spot where the brook trout were, his mother had caught a big one there years ago! Finding the Lake Trout on Indian was easy....We knew where they would be before we even got there...When the water gets warm in the summer the Lake Trout are going to head for deep water say 50ft or more to find colder water....There's only one place on Indian where the water is that deep & the fish were showing up on the finder by the bunches....One of the local angler's told us he had been doing very well by jigging spoons on lead core line....Said he had caught 8 Lakers the day before we came up! That area of the state sure is Pretty!!!
Coonhunter, Thanxs for the Info on the Big Brookies being in Ingraham Pond...I'm gonna look into that! Anyone see the huge Laker's In New York outdoor news yet!! Can't wait to get one of them huge ones like that!!
