I used my motor to troll with for the first time @ idle speeds....today I noticed that there is a grease water mix leaking out of small holes just above lower unit...Does anyone have an Idea what may be going on??

What brand/make/model is it ? Is it just a small drip when you pull it out ? There are some breather holes in most lower units. You will get some water/grease drippage from them after use which is normal. Check your lower unit gear grease. If it is at all milky, change it. If it is milky again after your next use, you need new seals.

It's an Evinrude SP 28hp....No its not a small drip it is oozing out...It's an electric start not a pull start...It starting oozing when I started it up...They do look like some kind of breather holes...Checked the lower unit oil and it looked good not milky @ all
By gear grease do you mean the oil type lube that you put behind the prop

Sounds like it is shot...get rid of it quick before more goes wrong. I'll offer $20.00 for it.
Just kidding...
Good motor. Does the water from the cooling come out with the exhaust? Sometimes you will get some oil/water/exhaust mix oozing out the breather holes. Not squirting. Just running down the side of the lower unit. If your lower unit grease looks good you should be fine. Just make sure you are getting good cooling. Overheating because of a bad $12.00 impeller is the most common cause for trashing a motor.

Yes the water comes out with the exhaust....God when I first starting reading that last reply the hair stood up on the back of my neck......One thing I forgot to mention is that there was a lot of fishing line that got wrapped up behind the impeller also. The Ipeller looks to be in good shape.

The fishing line got caught up in the impeller??? Or propeller??? The impeller is internal...you can't see it. If fishing line got caught up in the propeller, that is how the seals get taken out. Keep an eye on the lower unit grease. That's 2 screws, one low and one higher that look the same. Just unscrew the lower one to check it. Add a little to the upper till it won't take anymore. If it starts getting milky, get the seals changed, FAST. It's not that big of a deal, but it takes a pro with the right tools to do it. This is one of those outboard jobs that if you take it to someone you don't know....you can be taken, big time. I've heard of $400.00 plus...should be @ $100.00 total. Seals are cheap, maybe an hour labor.

Thanks Buckhunter appreciate the words of wisdom. Yes it's the Propeller not the impeller...I'm gonna check and fill that lower unit this weekend. Ran the boat today for a few hours straight & she was runnin' good; hope I can keep it that way!
