I can't wait till we get safe ice somewhere. Big Bay on Onieda lake freezes first. Well for the Onieda lake anyway. Never ice fished anywhere else. Maybe I'll have to this year.

I hear you Spikehorn I'm Itchin real bad to get out myself!! I've been fishin for steelhead lately & these colder temps make it hard to stay focused enough to catch fish. I've only been out on oneida lake once as a kid ice fishin'. I hear guys do very well pullin up walleye out there and god knows what else outta that lake. Spent alot of time fishin off the pier at sylvan beach as a kid. It was nothin to pull out a 1/2 dozen big channel cats a night amongst various other fish! I've even seen A Bowfin & Burbot caught out there. We spend alot of time on fish creek in the summer. Fishing is phenomenal huge Northerns, Tiger Muskie, Smallmouth, Largemouths, Walleye the list goes on & on... IS THERE ANY ICE ON THAT BAY??

It was starting to slush over yesturday morning. then the sun came out and melted alot of it. I caught a bowfin in the summer while I was bullhead fishing. plus a few carp. My buddy has been killing the steelhead. He's doing a online contest on salmoncrazy.com (i think). He said he is in 2nd place.
I just want some perch. Its like crack to me. I can't get enough!! ;D

BIG (Lunker) Pike are hard to come by during the summer months; Once water temps Rise above 65 degrees, larger pike will become very stressed; often heading for deeper water & searching out springs. Even if you find them it is often difficult to get them to bite. Focus on the beggining of the season....Check your water temps 50-60 degrees is prime time! Pike even thrive in cooler temps they are just a little slower in their reponses, Be patient if the water is cold & fish lures slowly. Smaller pike have a different niche and can be easily caught during the warmer summer temps....Lunker fish will be found in different locations, In a different state of aggressiveness.
