I took my muzzle-loader out to the range today and had a misfire on the first shot. It is currently sitting in a tub of water soaking, before I remove the bullet. I was using Pyrodex RS powder. It is at least 6 years old. Is the powder bad or did I just lick out on this one shot.

Misfire? Do you mean it didn't go off the first time? Are you using #11 caps or #209 primers? Probably your nipple was pluged and didn't get enough fire in there. I would of loaded her up again with another cap and gave it a shot. This happened to me in the treestand one time. I disassembled the gun in the stand, unloaded it, ran a patch through, cleaned the nipple, and reloaded. An hour later the same 6 pointer came back and BOOM. He went straight down. Good luck.

I used percussion caps. I tried another two just to make sure it would not fire. Prior to firing I used a cap on the unloaded gun to burn out any oil from the last time I cleaned it.
