trap some K-9's on my property in Oswego county. I'm just curious of some good methods of trapping coyotes, grey, or red fox in the snow. I have never trapped before but took my course and am very interested. I only have 31 acres to trap on with a large swamp and pond in the middle. Anything you have learned over the years would be appreciated... even if it's just a nice place to look for some sign.

There are quite a few folks here using the hay set to pick up K-9's in the snow. Urine post sets work well this time of year too.

yep! the hay sets and post sets would be first on my list . the rainy weather , freezing and thawing really makes it hard using many dirt type sets this time of year. good luck !

go to agway lowes and ask them if they got any peat moss it is cheap an use that in dirt holes to help it from freezing etc.the hay set is also a good choice.

What I would suggest is to walk all over! Go and start looking for tracks and other sign. I would start around the edges ot the swamp and pond. Look for rabbits, mice, voles anything that can be prey. If food is there, you'll find them. Any creeks or drainages going into or out of the swamp and pond. Snow is a great teacher. Anything that walks is going to leave a track. Use the internet for pictures of critter tracks in the snow. Take your time. Go slow and look. Make a day of it. Pretty soon it will jump right out at you. Remember what you see (in the snow) and where you see it. Will help next fall. I already started to note locations for next year... Best of luck!!!!!!!
