Well it happened again. Over in North Greenbush( Albany area ) a coyote attacked a little dog and bit it pretty good. A young lady grabbed her pet to save it and had to be put threw a serious of painful rabies shots. Maybe we ought to keep track of these incidents on here across the state so the NYSTA has some ammunition to show the Senators, DEC, and the Public. Here in the Albany area there was this coyote incident yesterday, in February a rabid fisher attacked a lady in her garage, sent her to the hospital for rabies shots, a bobcat jumped into a golf cart and drove the driver out, and then there was the coyote down in New York that ran amok in a clothes store. So maybe we ought to keep track of these incidents to show how important trapping is. All of this things have happened since the first of the year. Channel six news did a study yesterday and so far this year there has been 10 confirmed cases of rabies in Schenectady county, 1 in Albany, 5 in Saratoga, and 5 in Rennselear counties. A call to your county health dept will tell you how many in your county. If we build a thread and keep the records state wide, the proof is in the pudding. Something tangible in writing. We have enough trappers statewide to build a network of information. Then our lobbyist has something to work with and the state organization does too.

Let's not forget about the pack of yotes that recently killed some dogs while their owner was cross-country skiing down here in Chautauqua County. I agree, this should all be documented and shared with people who do not understand the need for trapping.

Wayne: The next time you see a coyote in the Buffalo area---make sure he or she feels welcome--- burgers--steak--- what ever it takes---- maby if the word gets around in the coyote community a good bunch may move there from HERE--- WE CAN PROVIDE RIDES IF THEY NEED THEM.

I work for Carousel Mall and personally have seen a coyote come through the parking lots in the middle of the night picking up scraps. For a few years now I have watched grey fox in the old oil fields but those days are gone since they cleared them out. I have also seen eagles flying along the lake and I watch deer all the time. The biggest buck I saw was a 10 pointer in 2003. They are around. Good thing we have AL Burns for our skunks.

Getting back to the original idea about keeping a log of rabies outbreaks, bites, etc. is a good idea, we just need the folks to step up and get involved to make it happen.

My parents were in Arizona last winter staying at some resort out there, my dad was walking his dog on a leash and had a coyote jump on his dog and get caught in the leash, luckly he's had experience dealing with animals and was able to get the coyote away from the dog but not before he had his leg scratched from his knee to his foot, and had to go through rabies shots.

There has to be away to track rabies by county, attacks, bites to people and pets, nuisance complaints, public comments, anything reported by television news or newspaper groups, etc.
