Not a trapper. I respect the skill and knowledge behind trapping, and more importantly, your knowledge.
Live on a farm in upstate NY. Turned one of my barns into a home for my mother-in-law. She told me she heard something bigger than a mouse in the floor under her bathroom. Cleared out a woodpile behind the bathroom and found an entrance on Memorial Day. It is 100% without question a mink. I actually have some good pics from my trail cam.
I have kept that area free of any cover the mink could use, and the mink seemed hesitant coming and going. Odd daytime trips that made me think mother.
a few days ago, I stopped seeing her, and the camera has been positions to see both entrances. I put a few twigs over the entrances forming a little row of tiny posts, and they have not been disturbed at all, and no images of her/him.
Is it likely that the mink moved on? She's a couple hundred yards from swamps, ponds and a stream...and more importantly, no humans.
There are other clues, but I am not sure if it's worth wasting your time with them if the answer is a resounding "no".

Probably reared some young in there, moved on with them after you disturbed the hidden entrance. Lay down some talc or baby powder in front of the entrances, tracks will tell the story.
