Hey everyone last season was my first hunting season, and I'm working on adding trapping to my license. I was wondering if there is anyone who is based on Long Island who can help show me how to trap. I figure it will be a little bit before I get my own set up.

Hello there. Not to familiar with Long Island. Only been there once. I live in the Adirondacks. Check with your 4 H in your area. They may be able to lead you to someone. Did you take the trapping course ? Possibly someone from there could help you out. All the best and welcome to the sport.

Thanks for the reply. I finished my homework, and signed up for a class on the 19th of June. However the class is at the Sullivan County Conservation Club. I booked that class because I have no idea if there will be a class more locally to me. Years ago I saw a class that was hosted at a local gun range, but I was there for a trap and skeet class at the time. I'll look into the local 4H thing though.

Good luck and tight chains when you do start trapping. Lot of good videos out there and YouTube. Hands on is always the best teacher though. Trapping 50 years and learning still.

Looks like I stay closest to you - Brooklyn, NY. Not finally a LI but still. I'm curious what species and on what land you do plan to trap? as well I'm curious about what you plan to do with fur. I hope you took the class last year, passed it and now found yourself familiar with difference btw hunting and trapping, right ? You can contact me directly if your inquiry for a mentor is still actual. My specialty is beaver, otter, muskrat, rarely a fisher and racoon. never got a chance to deal with a coyote, a fox or a bobcat.
