I only have NAFA-spec boards, FHA uses one size for fisher, 5"@48", this board is 6"@48" and still a little loose. I also have 6-1/2"@48" boards but didn't want to mess things up if I go FHA.
36" from nose to base of tail. Tail is only about 4" long. If he had a full tail, it wouldn't fit.
Because of the multiple quarantines, I had this fisher and the last coyote in the freezer (coyote still in there) until I could get to it or pelt sealing whichever came first. I took it out to thaw yesterday because the DEC said best to make an appointment when I called last week about getting them sealed. Good thing it was today, I beat the storm!
The old fisher split the cubby in two when he got caught in the body grip and twisted around a couple of times, it was real job getting him out of the trap.
I'll try to post pics at some point. I just got all 3 fisher sealed in the Herkimer DEC office this morning, I was a little confused with the seal numbers - 2 are consecutive, one is way out of sequence if there is any such thing. I asked why, he said no difference, he just found a loose one in the envelope so he used it first. When I gave him the skulls, he was blown away by the size of the big male especially when compared to the other two, which aren't too shabby themselves. "Wow, how long is he?" I took the unfleshed pelt out of the zip lock bag and it rolled out full length. He looked at it, then at me, "What, you cut off the tail?" And so the story began...
By the way, I counted up the trap checks from the fisher log... Only 16. I forgot about the gaps due to quarantine when I said I had 3 weeks or so. Catch total for those 16 checks: 3 fisher, 3 coyotes, 2 grey fox and 1 red fox. I want to get out again but - we'll see. For ME, it was a great season, no matter how short. And only 8 sets for fisher, 2 for canines. Still wish I had the whole season to trap, though.
