New York State Trappers are still awaiting NYSTA officials to release the "Official NYSTA Response" document to the Rank & File membership so we can see what our association sent to the DEC, and supported on our behalf.
Perhaps Secretary Nate could shed some light on when this important document will be released.
All in the name of Full Disclosure, Transparency, & Accountability.
Thanks in advance, Secretary Nate, for your cooperation.

The official response is now posted at the website.. www.nystrappers.org/nysta-position-re-proposed-mink-muskrat-beaver-season-changes/Wow, not only did you support the loss of a week for some northern zones, you also opposed the Nov 10 opener here in the southwestern zone??! By Nov 25th here where I live its either iced up or the snows are building due to being in the worse part of the snowbelt. You instead ask them to extend the season to Feb 28, when my world is under 2 ft of snow. Good move. How bout you support the earlier opener and ask for consideration of a longer season? You claim your position represented overwhelming feedback from trappers in my area, yet I never was asked by any rep, email, phone call, posting at FB or website, etc. So who did you ask? You certainly have done a poor job of representing your membership, as you have claimed in your position response. Back room boys again thinking they know more, and are the only ones qualified to make such decisions for NY trappers. I'm pissed.

I'd like one member of the JTI or the BOD to come on here and explain to me your position and why, regarding opposing the earlier opener in western NY for muskrat and mink. I want you to give me your scientic facts or research that shows a muskrat in your area is prime a full month before mine. I do not want to hear that your opposition was based upon the consensus of trappers in my area, as I know quite a few who are as amazed as I am that you opposed this and many being NYSTA members who were also in the dark on this. Give me your best reasoning for opposing something that trappers in my neck of the woods have desired for a long time. If like you state, the proposal by the DEC was based upon feedback from trapper surveys, does this not indicate to you that this is what trappers wanted in western NY??? You used this as the reason for the loss of a week in the northern zone, so don't pull it off the table when it comes to region 9. Now I don't know who should answer this (or even if they will) but if its Mr. Rockwood please don't tell me I can email or call you as your info is out there and well known. I am asking as a member out in front of like members, and refuse to do this behind closed doors. All of us in the western zone deserve an explanation, not just one of us. Show us the respect we deserve for being paying members for many years and for putting trust in those who should represent us.

It's an honest, valid question that deserves an honest answer.
I'm surprised that NYSTA members, and other non-affiliated trappers are taking this laying down without any comment.
Looks like Western New York trappers lost out on a great opportunity for a more equitable trapping season because they weren't consulted, or accurately represented by their leadership.
Sad, and disappointing.

I know your positional letter says trappers in my area were against the earlier opener...based upon how many responses? Which region 8 or 9 rep represented us members here? Can they perhaps explain? Again, I want the number of trappers contacted. I can't find one trapper in region 9 that wouldn't favor the earlier opener. DO YOUR JOB AND REPLY TO YOUR MEMBERSHIP!!

It seems like Rockwood spoke for the Northern trappers and Von spoke for the Western trappers.
