Please complete this short survey. www.surveymonkey.com/r/VLYY6KWI am posting it here because not everyone is on the e-mail list, in fact NYSTA has exactly 491 e-mail addresses. 490, not counting mine. So, if you would like to be on the e-mail list, and you are a member in good standing, send your e-mail and full name as it appears on your membership card to natebrock11@yahoo.com and after I confirm that you are in fact a member in good standing, I will add you to the e-mail list. Have a great day.

A bit of advice.
It would be helpful with the e-mail question to provide a choice of: All of the above.
As with myself,
All of the choices apply.
E-mail blasts are easily accomplished and every choice the survey provided would be helpful for the sharing of vital NYSTA information.
This is a great 1st step to address the current lack of information issues.
Kudos to NYSTA for taking this to task

Back to the top for a bit.... When people click on the thread, your first post is at top. No need to discourage comments, its a forum and that's what happens. I agree with Bob that in essence all of the above apply. At minimum a quarterly update and anything else of importance to NY trappers should be ongoing. I don't think you'll have anyone saying..oh no, I only want to hear from you if its an emergency. Truth is, its silly that you need to initiate a survey to find out if members wish to be communicated with. Just do it. The second question was a tough one for me as I don't know if I'm in good standing anymore....

I think this is a great first step in communication. I can see surveys of the membership in the future on important issues, however unfortunately there are a few that don't have E-Mail. Also constant changing of E-Mail addresses.I for one will never get on Facebook; don't trust it.I think NYSTA should spend the money for at least two newsletter mailings. Anyway, thank you Nate for this step.

You will see it abbreviated as "btt" or "BTT" in forums with lots of threads that get commented on, a thread can get buried. As of 0244 Eastern Time on the 28th of September: Out of the ~1400 members, of which I have less than 500 e-mail addresses, we have received 129 responses. 13 are not members. 2 skipped the last question. 40 selected more than one answer when asked to pick one answer.

Typical response rate for surveys conducted via email is 20% (10 - 30% is the norm). Considering the one avenue for knowing about the survey was here, which shut down for a week the day after you posted it and FB, which not many members utilize, you're right on target if you consider that email was the most direct way of reaching out to membership. Most people don't take the time to answer surveys.
Of the 129 answered, what's the breakdown of response answers?
Again, this is silly. Just communicate here, in TP, at the website, and on FB. Nothing more is being asked other than to communicate with the membership. You started doing it on FB, now continue with the other avenues available. Simple.

Currently it is leaning towards a monthly e-mail, close behind was response number two, the "when any proposed legislation, good to bad" option. I'll leave it open and revisit it in a month.

I had a few minutes to kill so went through the 138 results from the survey as of 2200 EDT 10 October 2020. 122 said they were members in good standing, 16 said no or didn’t answer the question(2).
67 would like a monthly e-mail (10 Non Member) 26 would like a quarterly e-mail (4 Non Member) 23 would like an e-mail when there is a proposed change (2 Non Member) 6 only want an e-mail in an emergency.

Thank you for the data. There should now be a poll commissioned to determine whether NYSTA members want a November 10th start to their Southern & western zone muskrat season or rather a February 28th extension instead. Likewise, Northern Zone muskrat trappers should be polled to determine they favor losing a week of early season muskrat trapping and start on November 1st, or whether the season should remain at October 25th. Such a poll would help to determine the actual reality of the preferences of NYSTA members(and non-affiliated trappers) rather than rely solely on the word of a clearly conflicted & biased JTI chairman who has at least two conflicts of interest. (Federal Government trapper & Fur buyer). This poll might help get us closer to the truth. walleyed
