It's like someone finally discovered that "eastern coyotes" don't live up to the scorn they've undeservingly received for so long...?

At the recent FHA post covid-19 auction, you couldn't give away an Eastern Cayute !! Now it may be covid related, but Western High-line Pale yotes sold well but the Easterns were scorned this go around. walleyed

I know a lot of people who are not hardcore outdoorsmen that "have always wanted to try trapping" and this year seems to be bringing them out of the woodwork. Similar to the sudden swell in gardening, canning and freezing fruits & vegetables crowd. I know a lot of them too, who say after the fact that they had no idea how much time, effort, work and money invested was involved.
Same with trapping. Once these people spend a few hundred dollars on a handful of traps and gear, fight thru the elements to check empty sets, multiple possum catches in canine sets, etc... the luster quickly wears off.

Offers for $2.75 highs on XXXL selects were mostly rejected. I talked to someone who has more muskrats stranded at FHA than everyone in this forum trapped last year combined... he's not happy about the utter collapse in prices. Unless something drastically improves between now and next spring sales, look for NYS muskrat averages @ $2 or less... and that is IF you have a good percentage of prime, winter grades mixed in.

He should have sold them to Groeny last fall....it's amazing that some seasoned trappers have no idea how to market their fur for top dollar. I was getting $6.00 for some of my rats.

Groeny's going to be buying a chit-ton of New York State's muskrat this coming season based on the lack-luster performance of our New York State In-country buyers over the last year. I know he's going to be getting a lot of mine should I be so fortunate as to catch any. GROENY ROCKS !!! walleyed
