Anyone know how to obtain a Fisher trapping permit from the DEC Bureau of Wildlife now that Covid-19 has them pinned helplessly in their offices ? There was No DEC Representation at the Trapper's flea Market on Friday like usual. Do we have to now call the Regional Offices and talk to a voicemail account to request a fisher permit so we can keep the DEC safe from covid cooties ? w

I've got mine in the past (forgot to get them at the NYSTA) by contacting the region and they just sent them to me......not sure how that plays out with COVID.
I saw Scott Smith (recognized him with his mask).....he said same thing, since no booth this year. I asked him about the southern zone and he reiterated what he said to me last year...this should be the last year for experimental season (five days at outset of season). I asked him what he envisioned and while he was certainly speculation on his part, he mentioned a later opening for certain and a few weeks to knock them back....but again, he was purely guesstimating, and I'd NOT be a total D**K and try to hold him to his words next year.....
He knows as well as we do that there are plenty of fisher around AND that the early season doesn't necessarily jive...and THUS what they call the experimental season...seasons........

Thanks for that insight Mark, appreciated. Like you said it might not happen, but sounds like the right direction to go.

Just got off the phone with the secretary for the DEC Wildlife Region 6 office at the Dulles State Office bldg in Watertown, NY. at (315) 785-2263.
No wildlife personal were in the office.
She took down all my personal data and Wildlife Licence #number, etc.
She said she would pass the information on to the biologists and that they would tentatively be sending out the Fisher/marten trapping permits in late September.
It was all quick, efficient, and easy.
If you live in Region #6, give that number a call and you should have no issues getting a permit.
worked for me.
