I hope Cuomo starts opening businesses soon so people can go back to work! Had a couple guys walk in on me this morning and even after I alerted them that I was already there, they decided to try and skirt around me all morning to try and get to the turkeys before me. Real classy bunch I deal with around here. On the bright side, I heard more gobbling this morning than I have in a long time so maybe the population is rebounding.

Same on the state land here next to me, I always take the opener off of work and have it to myself. This morning there were cars at every pull off. I had some gobblers located at two of those spots, wasn't happening this morning. I ended up at a location I hadn't scouted and didn't hear a gobble, but on the bright side I had a pleasant walk in the spring woods on a beautiful morning.

Forgot to mention I saw a sow and two cubs at about 30 yards. I saw the cubs after she was getting past me and got nervous so I made a motion to let her know I was there. She pushed the cubs up a tree and made a couple mock charges at me, stomping the ground and woofing the whole time. I got the gun up and backed away slowly. Was a bit nerve wracking.

Made up for it today by killing a 2-yr old gobbler. Made me work for him though. Heard them on the roost at 5:30 and finally got one at 9:10. Only moved my set up one time, at 8:30. Was a beautiful morning to be in the woods!

Had a couple guys walk in on me this morning and even after I alerted them that I was already there, they decided to try and skirt around me all morning to try and get to the turkeys before me. Real classy bunch I deal with around here. When ever I get that type of situation anymore where I know the other hunters know that I was there first, see me, and try to cut me off from birds I am working or calling, I always make it a point of walking out to the birds, and spooking or flushing them away so the bad actors do not benefit from my calling, or their bad behavior. I was shot by a trespassing turkey hunter in 1980, and I have never since tolerated that behavior by dry-gulching slobs masquerading as turkey hunters. walleyed

On a brighter note, On Sunday May 3rd at 10:35AM, at 10 yards distance,
I knocked down a 23 LB Gobbler with 1 1/4" and 1 1/8" spurs, and two beards measuring 9 3/4" and 9 1/4" inches in length.
On Monday May 4th at 6:20AM, at a distance of 40 yards, I downed a 22 LBS, 8 oz. Gobbler with Spurs both 1" inch, and a 9 1/4" inch beard.
It was a great & successful season for walleyed this spring.

Walleyed, awesome birds!! Congrats!!
And I did exactly as you stated above with my “friends”. The second time they moved in on me, I picked up my stuff and walked right towards the turkeys and bumped them in the opposite direction. The next day, I am fairly convinced that one of those is the bird I shot.

We've got to call these jokers on this unethical stuff or at the very least, show them that their under handed tactics will not prove effective in terms of success. Congrats on your Birds, also. w

Sad part is that only one guy had a gun and I assume was having the other guy help him. If that is how he is being taught or “helped”, I feel bad for his encounters in the future.

If I walked towards other hunters before fly down, my luck, I'd get shot.....I kinda look like a turkey in strut....small head, fat bottom.

MZ Well, You don't walk toward them, but if they KNOW you are there & they are attempting to cut you off after you are already setup and calling a Gobbler, It's a simple matter to stand up, expose yourself to a turkey to shut him up, get him to bust off the roost, or drive him away from the Unethical, Slob, Dry-Gulching, Losers (I refuse to refer to them as hunters} If these creeps got what they deserved every time they pull their unethical crap, and It doesn't work out successfully for them , they will be less likely to attempt to screw their fellow turkey hunter in the future. Just my opinion, and what I do EVERY TIMEI've been Turkey hunting since 1977 & have seen a few things. w
