I’m still waiting by the mailbox for my free bottle of lure....... what do you want? I'll buy it and have it shipped straight to your door.
those 2012 - 2013 decisions of mine were among my worst ever. I wanted to recreate the fun times in my life from 1990s where I traveled the conventions circuits selling books. Never made any real money on book sales until I sold them and the copy rights. Same as Johnny Thorpe, Russ Carmen, etc lure makers who sold out and then restarted again several times over. But the memories and experiences when I was young on the conventions trail were priceless.
moral of the story? Bad, bad business attempt decisions on my part. There is no money to be made with start-up baits/lures in an already saturated industry with terminally declining demand. As for trapper organizations of any kind? They are mostly political infighting, high drama and low effectiveness. Also terminal decline of new volunteer officers and members from today's impersonal society.
I wanted to make recreational fur trapping a viable year-round hobby and add value to a lifelong pursuit. big mistake, never to be repeated again. so that said, PM me your preferred lure from any of today's bazillion current makers and enjoy it next season I hear ya about poor decisions. I was just getting back into trapping at that time and was naive enough to believe I was going to get something for my money! Live and learn. I have plenty of lure now, thanks. I feel bad taking anything from semi-retired folks in these uncertain times.

Some flaunt, some share. There's a difference. and some pear-shaped losers just troll.
here's the real deal Mac... everything I do draws flack from the ex-trappers, non-trappers and armchair trappers. When I post that I spent the day out looking for fur to catch and couldn't find enough or any, people reply I quit trapping. When I post I went out looking for fur to catch, found it and caught it, exact-same people post I should be working some job. So which is it? Which scenario am I actually right?
One of many examples is (the late) Johnny Thorpe. Never had a long-term career, worked a number of misc jobs - hobbies - past times. Trapped fur, panned gold, mined old bottles, made bait & lure, sold bait & lure businesses several times. Wrote books and recorded videos for sale. Had his NYS license revoked for five (5) years over multiple trapping violations, fled to California during that time to continue his lifestyle while the 5-year ban in NY leaked away.
You and others question me for not having a "job" career. At least one wanna-be trapper right here voiced a complaint at a NYSTA meeting over me doing a state convention demo because I had one (1) ticket for a #330 trigger violation nearly a decade ago. The same usual pear-shaped losers post on various archaic message boards about how I don't trap, pretend to trap, etc.
see the hypocrisy there, mac? Thorpe is deemed a "trapping god" by many (not me, John Magel was actually a better trapper and Thorpe admitted that in my presence) while jokers and fools like marshrat = hoodrat post their psychobabble.
For the record, I don't care about any of that. It's fodder for laughs between me and many other trappers. I asked them to stop, but a number of guys notify me anytime my name shows up on any ex-trapping message boards. We used to laugh about the hypocrisy of guys who don't actually trap posting about how I don't trap. But that got old to me, so I no longer respond now.
hypocrisy, Mac. Double standards. Old ladies and pear-shaped losers gossip. Flaunting immaturity and stupidity. We laugh

All In my opinion, of course. w
btw bobby... Sterling Garlock is one of the top all-around trappers in NYS. Lives north of you near Alex Bay, was a member here and might still be. Great young guy, could teach us both plenty, no doubt

My lord, so dramatic Austin! Let's see, you said you had the freedom to go anywhere, do anything you want at any time. I simply asked how, don't you work? My assumption was you're too young to be retired, so was curious.
Then I mentioned I was glad you got out, you had posted about constant freeze thaw conditions preventing you from getting after rats.
Then I asked how you would commute to your NY camp, as all I've heard from you for 6 months was that NY sucks for deer and muskrat and everything else, and that you'd be in Iowa by trapping or deer season.
Then I offered an opinion about facebook, my opinion, and an opinion about those who flaunt and those who share pics. The difference is obvious to me.
Now you respond with name calling, pear shaped, troll, armchair trapper, etc. In my mid 60's now and haven't heard name calling since I was about 10 years old. I notice you do that often, or remark that you'd like to meet the person in a threatening way, akin to a junior high school bathroom fight.
Then you compare yourself to Thorpe.
I miss anything?

I compared two similar trapper lifestyles... and asked why there is a viewed difference. Thorpe was a lifelong trapper who worked odd jobs and pursuits, made and sold lures, sold lure businesses, had legal issues and lost his license. Nobody chided him for lacking a 40-year retirement career, nobody protested him being asked to perform a trapping demo at NYSTA because he had a DEC tickets record.
Read and comprehend the message there, mac. Don't spin it to your personal viewpoints. I don't trap and people complain. I do trap and people complain. Are these people just plain bitches? That's my point.

I don't mind getting banned for telling it like it is...you always seem to jump other people's threads and bring up "bigtime" trappers for some reason and come up with an excuse as to why you aren't trapping. You really don't seem to impress anybody. Please move to Iowa with your imaginary Facebook friends.
sorry for the delayed posts here, just knocked off skinning the last of my beavers pulled from freezer last night. I like them a tad bit icy in the core... no bloody mess that way. Always peel your beavers day two, let that blood congeal. Fur handling tip for ya there.
trapping season is done, trappers here are done, I'm done. As y'all were before me here, boys. See ya next fall in the Great New York State (and elsewhere) High-Volume Trapping thread. Look for a special guest appearance by my then-partner and fur shed assistant manager, Walleyed. Have a great summer. We'll see you soon!

I've been trapped in the drudgery of fleshing and stretching Muskrats all day long.
What did I miss ?
I started this thread to share MY spring muskrat trapping with my fellow trappers.
Unfortunately,
My threads here usually get hijacked by the same usual suspect, and then go off the rails.
That's why I don't post much anymore.
That, and The difficulty of posting photos make it hard to put out an interesting product that trappers would want to read.
I'll try another thread when Turkey season opens, and see if I don't end up with another hijacked thread.
I hope to get out after a couple Gobblers If Cuomo doesn't cancel Our Turkey Season to punish us for being Upstate Hunting, Fishing, Trapping, and Gun-toting Conservative Republicans.
Cuomo closed All the State, County, and Town Boat Launches
AND PRIVATE Boat Launches & Marinas effective today.
He's getting real close to having a revolt on his hands if He closes our turkey season.
Wonder If We'll be getting a refund on our $100.00 worth of state licenses for hunting, trapping, and fishing.
Doubt It.
Hope all the Sportsmen who sat on their arses and didn't vote in the last Governor's election remember this next go around.

turkey hunting is GENERALLY a solo game....hope they consider that.....but why apply common sense.
On Magel and Thorpe...what's that great political slam from decades ago? "I knew Jack Kennedy, and Mr. Quayle, YOU are NO Jack Kennedy!" Or something like that!
