That camp will be a long commute from Iowa Austin, or wherever it is you say you'd be by trapping time this year.

That camp will be a long commute from Iowa Austin, or wherever it is you say you'd be by trapping time this year. the challenge is I can go anywhere and do anything I want... which in itself presents problems
southeast Iowa got hit real hard with EHD last summer, my friends there report painful deer losses on their properties. 3yr and 4yr old bucks too young to shoot found dead everywhere. Along with real mature ones too. not good.
My friends & I hunt the Ellisburg region and/or Black Lake for turkeys most years. I saw a godawful amount of full-fan strutters there last weekend. Just picked me up a nice 70-300mm zoom lens for my Canon. Headed back up this weekend to catch some pics and knock on doors for permissions. Wish me luck!

for the record, I work too. My income streams are self-directed, transportable and I'm semi-retired. Like I said here a year or two ago and you scoffed at it. LOL!
I can work from anywhere internet access and/or hungry people exist.

I work full time because I enjoy my house with 15 acres of prime deer hunting.i also enjoy my camp on sandy pond and my other camp up north along with my 3 boats, 2 canoes, 3 cars and plenty of traps and plenty of guns. I will fully retire in a few years and be set for life to hunt trap and fish as I please . the world doesn't reward us for "part" or "full" time efforts... it rewards us for the value we offer supply vs demand.
If that weren't the case, manual laborers and ditch diggers would earn more than CEOs... now wouldn't they?

I’m still waiting by the mailbox for my free bottle of lure....... what do you want? I'll buy it and have it shipped straight to your door.
those 2012 - 2013 decisions of mine were among my worst ever. I wanted to recreate the fun times in my life from 1990s where I traveled the conventions circuits selling books. Never made any real money on book sales until I sold them and the copy rights. Same as Johnny Thorpe, Russ Carmen, etc lure makers who sold out and then restarted again several times over. But the memories and experiences when I was young on the conventions trail were priceless.
moral of the story? Bad, bad business attempt decisions on my part. There is no money to be made with start-up baits/lures in an already saturated industry with terminally declining demand. As for trapper organizations of any kind? They are mostly political infighting, high drama and low effectiveness. Also terminal decline of new volunteer officers and members from today's impersonal society.
I wanted to make recreational fur trapping a viable year-round hobby and add value to a lifelong pursuit. big mistake, never to be repeated again. so that said, PM me your preferred lure from any of today's bazillion current makers and enjoy it next season

Seems Austin might be a little jealous of the attention that Bobby receives.
while bobby is bantering about the Wuhan plague in a supposed trapper's message board, I'm having an hour-long PM (private message) conversation with one of the top-producing beaver trappers in North America. I've been picking his brain for weeks, super cool guy... and 100% real trapper
you really want to see trapping pics, read actual trapping conversations? This FB page here (The Trapline) has nearly 30,000 members... more than every message board forum all combined.
interested in beaver & otter? Again, the top trappers from U.S. and Canada are here in "Beaver Masters" page, including Andy Weiser and many other "names". Tons of trapping info. But nothing on the Chinese plague, mayo vs miracle whip or any of those topics

I'm impressed Austin....glad you got out to do some trapping this year, the weather finally cooperated with ya!
I'm on facebook, see the same things you do, belong to the same sites. Most embarass me as a trapper with their posts. Very few are worth -while. Yeah, some of the big guys post once in a while, and tastefully. But 95% is junk. Especially on the trapline. Look at the PA site for how things should be done. All tasteful and nobody beating their chests with "look what I did".
Excuse my while I go login at my FHA account and look at my coyote prices and beat my chest privately.

Bobby caught over 200 rats....and still had time to banter about the plague.... I caught 46 beaver, 2 otter and still have time to discuss turkey hunting, deer hunting, beaver trapping, muskrat trapping, otter trapping, etc with outdoorsmen by PM, text or phone. But not how many eggs do you eat in a week, or biblical baking tips yet

Whether trapping or non-trapping related.
What else is a barn pic spread of a season's catch? Didn't all the old school trappers who many people consider idols or "trapping gods" do precisely that for the past 200 years?
