Legislative update
As of last week Assembly bill A8733 sponsored by Assembly woman Rosenthal now has a Senate companion bill S7550 by Senator Addabbo. The foothold trap ban.
The Assembly bill has one cosponsor and the Senate has none(they listed our friend Senator Tedisco as a cosponsor, but I went up to his office and someone put his name on it and has since been removed).
There is a good mechanism for getting your voice heard. On the Senate website there is a new feature. Once you register you can vote aye or nay and you can send a comment to your senator.
You can also get alerts if there is any action on a bill.
At this time, I'm not overly concerned about this bill but I am keeping a close eye on it.
If anyone hears of anything going on statewide or local that can contact me anytime.
I'm in the process of putting together a list of bills that concern us. I will be posting them here shortly.
Thank you all.

NYS Assembly bill A8733 - click the link to read the full details proposed to existing law. At the link, you will also see the justification as shown below. JUSTIFICATION: Wildlife trapping is an activity licensed by the New York State Depart- ment of Environmental Conservation. The state license allows individuals to trap furbearing animals, such as beavers, raccoons, foxes and coyotes to produce fur products. Despite the availability of more humane alter- natives, such as box or cage traps, many trappers still use steel leg- gripping traps, also known as foothold traps. These traps are triggered by springs once an animal steps onto the trap, quickly clamping onto their limb and holding them in place until they are discovered by the trapper. In some regions of New York State, it may be up to 48 hours before a trapper checks on a trap. Animals caught in leg-gripping traps are immobilized, and therefore are unable to move, eat or drink, care for their young or defend themselves from predators. In some cases, animals have even been discovered chewing off their trapped limb in order to escape. The American Veterinary Medical Association is opposed to their use.

How a bill becomes a lawThe job of the Senate is to work with the Assembly and the Governor to enact, amend or repeal statutes. This involves drafting, discussing and approving bills and resolutions. Bills can be stalled, modified/improved or fail to progress at any step, but the most simple example is: Step 1: Someone has a new policy idea Step 2: Idea is drafted into a Bill introduced by an Assembly and/or Senate sponsor(s) Step 3: Bill undergoes committee process Step 4: Senate and Assembly Pass Bill Step 5: Bill is signed by Governor

Thank you, sirs! I've just voted "NAY" to my senator, along with a very lengthy, detailed, factual reply. Whether she reads it or not... I'm hopeful but not disillusioned that it will make a difference, since she is a communist - seriously, what the heck do you think "Working Families" party is? - and she seems to be, well, like a cross between AOC and Adam Schiff. But I have to do what I have to do. I am not in control of her vote. ONLY MINE.

We need to go on the offense more and keep introducing more bills so they don't have time to challenge existing laws. I personally would still love to see a "cable restraint" bill that gets passed, even if we aren't allowed to use it until after the deer gun season. Trapping canines in snow and adverse winter weather conditions becomes futile. I don't even care if "cable restraints" are only allowed a 2 week special season like the cross bow season. It needs to be allowed. Even New Jersey has a "cable restraint" season as does PA and many other midwest states.

Yeah, But New York Democrats in charge of legislation are fond of following the lead of California. So with California just banning trapping in any way, shape, or form we know where this is headed. As long as The Democrats control of both the Senate & the Assembly and Cuomo is in in the Bully Pulpit, We trappers have exactly zero chance of ever seeing Cables All in my opinion, of course. w

New York is so liberal that the Presidential candidates don't even come here to campaign. My vote never counts. Just look at the outlandish legislation the Governor keeps sliding through. Now he wants to legalize pot. It's okay to kill babies! Open the jail doors and let them walk. I just prey that Dave Liebig will be as successful at keeping the wolf from the door as Dave Miller was.

YOUR VOTE DOES COUNT. In the Presidential election, when New Yorkers DON'T vote for a non-democrat candidate, it DOES affect the overall popular vote nationwide and gives "them" a (false) claim of legitimacy by invoking "We won the popular vote, down with the electoral college! _______ is NOT MY PRESIDENT!!! Selected not elected!!!" and all the rest of what always goes on. SO YES, VOTE, and make your vote add up to a popular vote win as well. As for no one campaigning in New Yorkistan… I've long held that ALL states must hold primaries/caucuses on the same day... OTHERWISE, "our guy" runs out of money in states like Iowa and New Hampshire, and has to drop out of the race before ANY NY voters get a chance to say Word One! Take Iowa, New Hampshire, throw in both the Dakotas and a few other midwestern states, and their TOTAL POPULATION does NOT even equal the number of registered New York voters in EITHER major party! BUT THOSE SMALL STATES HAVE DONE THE CHOOSING FOR US!!! By the time it's over with those (no disrespect, they're just tiny populations!) tiny little political pawns, like nails in the tires, the air is let out of most candidates' campaigns. By the time New Yorkistan's turn comes up, usually there's only one person in each party remaining on the ballot. THAT IS A DYSFUNCTIONAL SYSTEM THAT DISENFRANCHISES AN ENTIRE LARGE SEGMENT OF AMERICA AND OUR VOTING RIGHTS.
