I am back here to go deer hinting and my brother can trap for beaver that are a pest. What body grip trap should he buy and how should he set up for them?. Or maybe leg trap with a slide wire? What size & where to set it?

Easiest thing I have found as a rookie beaver trapper is to set 330 conibears where you find some narrow runs maybe below the main lodge and dam. Make sure you pay attention to the regulations in your area for trigger configuration if you do not have an otter season.

Make sure you pay attention to the regulations in your area for trigger configuration if you do not have an otter season. I found a pretty narrow channel like 2 ft wide and 3,5 ft deep between swamps both with dams. My question is how to set up #330 inside the channel , on what depth ? Close to the bottom or close to the surface ? Can I set up two vertically on each other to make the path 100% deadly for beaver?

Put it in the bottom and lay a dive stick over the top of the trap in the waters surface. Any beaver swimming on top will then dive below that and through your trap. No need to stack them from my experience. I stake mine through the springs with long sturdy sticks and then lay the dive stick between those where they poke up through the surface. That will keep it from floating away.

Thanks a lot. I'm gonna see what I can do over-there assuming now an ice is about 1" . What I'm worry about is a beaver can chose to cross that natural dam over because of the obstacles found under the water. A width of the natural rock/soil dam is about 18", it is very narrow "wall" that the channel is go through and stays over the water level of about 4" high only. I still cannot read a beaver mind but in such case I would chose to cross the wall over vs. diving to the bottom. We are gonna see. You know most NYS beavers are on foodstamps now thanks to the Governor Cuomo and very smart. I'll keep you posted.

You can set more than one trap.
