I’m ready to set for some predators. Hoping the weather is a bit drier than last year so I can actually get to some of my properties. All the traps are waxed, dry dirt gathered, conduit cut for pipe sets, and other equipment ready to go. Looking forward to a safe, fun filled season! Good luck all!!

Was beginning to wonder if I was the only one lol! Still not much opportunity for water trapping other than the small section of stream that runs through a corner of one of my farms. But I'm ready for predators. Actually, traps all prepared weeks ago! Austin - Couldn't wait? So THAT'S what summer muskrats look like!

Gonna start scouting and moving gear up north Columbus Day Monday. If I can stay on ample rats from 10/25 thru mid-November up there, I'll juggle three-four weeks of that mixed with rut-hunting whitetails. Gonna be a busy few months ahead outdoors.

Mostly ready here, traps were dyed a few weeks ago and dirt dried and stored before that. Just need to hit my permissions to confirm and drop off some adult beverages for a few of them.... Just came back from 7 days in the Adirondacks canoe camping, fall foliage was gorgeous up there. Pulled my fishing boat from its lake erie slip today, 82 degrees here today made me feel like I should be putting it back in!

I haven't had time to get ready yet, might not even get a chance to dye and wax. I don't think I will do much till the ground is froze solid.

We seem to have a very high population of all canines around here this year as well, Austin. In fact some of the red fox are getting uncomfortably comfortable with humans.

I've been all over the U.S. and Canada, but never once to the real Adirondacks. Not even Old Forge or any tourist areas. Hopefully I can make time to spend some time there next spring, chasing brook trout and photographing vistas before leaves come out. Hope you enjoy many dry ground, frosty mornings on your canine line over there west of me this season

Canines bite a lot better once the real cold settles in anyway. December was always my favorite month for enjoying peak-prime canines, miss the smell of fresh red fox urine on frozen ground at sunrise.

In fact some of the red fox are getting uncomfortably comfortable with humans. where I am back now, back where I grew up along the borders of Livingston and Wyoming counties has always been the epicenter of red fox country in western NY. From this swath north to where Spring hammers them along the big lake, no place with higher numbers. Dairy farms and wide river bottoms farmland, rolling hills either side. They like it here.

Red fox pup woke me up this morning with his non-stop barking outside my window. My wife thought he was hurt or something the way he sounded. I said “he’s gonna be if he keeps it up!” Went out with a light and saw him go streaking across the yard.

I’m ready although I don’t typically start until around Veterans Day when my son and I take a trip to Northern NY. All my lingering raccoons sold recently at the last auction for much more than I was expecting so I may try to put a dent in the ever blooming local raccoon population...I know my chickens will be grateful!
If all goes well with my work/family commitments, I plan to spend a week or so targeting my first bobcat in the big woods around Lyon Mountain.
Good luck and stay safe!

I have everything ready. I placed a wall tent in the Adirondacks, mainly for deer hunting , but plan on running my first ever Marten line while hunting there. Good luck everyone.

May 1st I watched an adult male red and a juvenile red play tag in a hayfield next to my turkey blind for 30 - 40 minutes. They acted just like two young dogs, 100% play mode and making all kinds of vocal ruckus. Opening day of turkey season, saw 0 birds there (obviously) but it was an experience I'll never forget.

Dino past ten days or so I started seeing roadkill raccoons all over this region, all of them next to standing cornfields. Distemper has swept thru yearly, knocked back the young ones hard but there are some real jumbos showing up dead on the highways every day. Makes me yearn for yesteryears along those #220 lines across hot trails.

A winter-prime marten is high on my bucket list of furbearers yet to catch. First up is otter, which we'll accomplish this season up north. Look forward to seeing your marten catch pics soon.

No season for me this year! First season not trapping in about 35 years! Rotator cuff surgery tomorrow, 10/7, followed by 6 weeks in a sling and 6 months of rehab! I’ll still hit a couple of fur sales, only to socialize and enjoy good company!
Regret that I will miss my first Youth Trappers camp, but it can’t be helped!
Enjoy the season, gentlemen!
