I’m not sure if am the one that should be talking for NYSTA but yes, Dave Miller did announce during the general membership meeting at the convention that he was going to retire and that he has been working with Dave Liebig to replace him when he does retire. Nothing has been set in stone yet, that's why the BOD has not made an announcement. When Dave Miller does officially retire we will send something out whether it be by email, Facebook, website or this forum, until then Dave Miller still is our representative at the legislature.
Volunteers are welcome. Anyone that came up to me at the sign-in booth to talk or to ask a question was asked if they could help out. I did ask them if they could help out and most of them did. If they didn't feel comfortable doing something I asked them to do I would ask what they would like to do and then I would let them do it.
Any and all help I can get is appreciated. Next year I can use all the help I can get so if you can help let me know. I am going to form a convention committee to help me organize and run things. After running it this year I see the need to get get more people involved. I can't be in 3 places at the same time so again, if you would be interested, let me know.
To some people we might look like the “good old boys club” but when you have the same people working or running the organization with no one else stepping up to the plate that's what it's going to look like. Yes, we have had people step up at times, but when they say or come off as saying ‘you need to do it my way or else’ and then when they don't get their way they quit, and in my opinion, they were looking for celebrity status anyway. I’ve been hearing this opinion for a while also.
There have been complaints that ‘only a select few know of the secret workings in NYSTA’. There are no secrets. If you think we are keeping secrets from the members then 1) call someone on the BOD 2) come to a meeting. I've been attending the BOD meetings for over 4 years and I don't know of any secrets. I do know that there have been some BOD members in the past that have said ‘they didn't hear this or they didn't know that’. All I can say to that is maybe if you put your phone down and listen to what’s going on you would have heard what was said. The other thing is if you miss one or two meetings you should be on the phone talking with the ones that were there; but then again, that is my opinion after 4 years of attendance.
Regarding progress in the embezzlement charges against a previous Treasurer: We have a lawyer on retainer. He is representing our case with the D.A.’s office involved. Movement of this case by the D.A. has been very slow. We are essentially in the hands of the D.A. The question is how much money shall NYSTA spend in pursuit of the restoration NYSTA deserves? NYSTA could go to Civil Court. Such a move would cost a significant amount of time and expense with no real guess as to outcome; but again, how much do we spend and what would be the return? I believe it’s in our best interest to just let the D.A. handle it at this time. Yes it’s been years but then again we are working with the NYS court system and remember this isn't like going to court for a speeding ticket.
