For my entire trapping career, I’ve attached body grip traps to leaning pole sets with 4 roofing nails driven into the pole. The jaws sit under the head of each nail (2 nails per jaw). When the trap is sprung it and the captured animal swing free to the ground. It worked very well but the set up was fairly time consuming. This season it dawned on me that I could use a KB stabilizer, attached to the tree or pole much faster. I wired the stabilizer tightly, and attached the trap. It worked perfectly. 2 raccoons and a fisher. No problems at all. Maybe someone already does this and I’m just now discovering fire? If not, I hope it helps.

Johnny Thorpe showed the use of KB stabilizer in his fisher trapping video (circa 2005). It really works well, but i find that the four nail method can be nearly as quick and much cheaper. Its also easier to have a pocket full of nails than carrying the stabilizers into set locations. I like to drive the nails a little wider than the distance between the trap jaws, as when you squeeze the trap on- it stabilizes it well.
