Alright, so I have heard that muskrats are one of the easiest furbearers to trap but, so far, no luck this year. I have sets in their feed beds and have seen them sitting on those same feed beds every morning and still no catches. I have set their runs and slides to find nothing in the trap the next morning. I am getting frustrated because every time I go to check my sets the rats are swimming around the marsh that I trap or feeding on the banks not 3 feet from my sets even after I move them or add another one to the spot that they were seen. I know its probably not worth it this year but now its becoming personal. I want these rats bad. Any tips are appreciated. Thank you

I have found rats to be alot of fun and fairly simple to catch... 110s and 155s set in the runs with carrot or parsnip triggers work great or a victor 1.5 longspring set on the waters edge with some of the same carrot or parsnip just above the trap on the bank and some rat gland or sweet smell lure and they seem to jump in the spot. I am in the twenties on the little buggers and im not even trapping for them yet.. I have had six sets out since the opener just trying to learn the phases of their hide transition from blue to prime... Last two caught had very little blue left so its almost primetime lol

Pan tension too high? You want the pan to free fall

Pans are set to free fall. I have a lot of their runs set with 110's and everywhere else set with #1 jumps. Finally caught one today and baited a bunch with apple this morning. Going to see what happens.

Well since the last post I did make a few floats baited with apple and set a few more 110s in some more trails. I started catching some rats. Im not piling them up but at least Im up to a couple per day now. Up to a cool half dozen as of this morning. Can't wait to get out and see what I've got in the morning. Every day is like Christmas morning on the trapline.

Glad your catching em... I have everything pulled at the moment as im waiting for deer season to be over to change properties closer to home... It sucks to have no excitement in the morning of checking my line....

I know that feeling. I was doing good with the canines for a while but the landowner wanted my sets off the land during deer season so all I have now is some rat sets out till the end of deer season. That's fine with me though because it keeps him happy and that's what keeps me able to use his land.

I know that feeling about keeping the owner happy and having to work around the deer schedual...
