So, I was thinking that I could use pigeon meat as bait. Obviously it would work for the predators, but surprise surprise, it might also work for coons, too! You know, since they literally eat everything. I'm not kidding, I just looked it up to confirm it.
I was thinking of buying a dehydrator regardless since I personally love jerky, but making cubed jerky for DP raccoon bait from pigeon meat sounds pretty doable too. Not sure if the coons in my area would like it, but if all else fails, I know of places where I can get cheap bird seed for them instead, lol!
All kidding aside, how does this sound to you guys? Input is always accepted!

Lean red meats don't put off much odor and tend to dry out quickly. Dehydrating would reduce the drawing power even more. Worth a try if that's what you have to work with but I'd have some other baits to experiment with too.

Hm, so would it be better if I ground the meat and added things to it? I was thinking of using it as a type of dry DP bait thing, like cat food, but I don't want it to be useless!

Just use the dry dog food and save yourself the work...
The tough part about a dp is stopping the coon. Doesn't really matter what you use as long as it tastes decent to a coon..

Fair enough! Just trying to brainstorm uses for pigeon since I plan on hunting them behind my house this year. They have other uses so it isn't a waste, but I like thinking 'outside the box', so to speak.
Why is it hard to stop coon by sets? That honestly confuses me, as I haven't heard of people having trouble getting them when they set in the right location.

Coon often just have a place on there mind they're going such as a sweet corn field.. And often pass by a dp or a pocket set no matter the bait or lure.. If you can break there one direction head up and make them stop they'll work about anything..
I've found it especially tough to catch breeding season boar coon with DPs...

Ah, I see! Would pre baiting be an option, then? As in, giving them a place (or several places) for food and then setting your traps right at the bait areas during the season?

I find the coon trails and set my baited DP's smack dab right in the middle of the trail, I toss a few mini marshmallows on the trail next to the trap to get them interested. Works ok for me.

Take those pigeons and pre bait a spot for yotes, foxes, cats, fisher and yes coon... Keep adding to it with any carcass but don't spend money...
Create a killing spot..
