Does anyone else find many rats with a white tip on their tail? There's a lake by me where 90% of the rats have white tipped tails. just wondered how common it was. This one came out of the river by that lake. I have been told it is genetic and also told it comes with age. I have noticed most of the rats I catch with tipped tails are big ones, but not all of them. Once in awhile, some have whitish feet, too. My guess is genetics but would like to hear the facts from a biologist. My guess was genetics also, I only catch them with in 4-5 miles of that lake.

I'd like to see the floats you gents are using. ive got a stretch of water that I always see rats sitting on ice at open water but its super deep and there is no sign or bank runs I can see, but I see the rats regularly . Be careful on the boat, we dont want the Rat Dynasty turning into the Rat-tanic.

you bet, i dont think the water levels will be anywhere near what they were last year but time will tell!!!, we are going to make an attempt to make a video from float construction, all the way thru set up, site selection, baits and lures, catch ratios etc etc might be a bit challenging, (the video) as neither of us are "technologically advanced" however i think we can muster enough savvy to get the raw footage then recruit some "younguns" to compile and edit! LOL

whatever you can share on video will have great value... content trumps glossy production every time

I have a pond by my house where beavers are creating a mess. I was trying to catch them with 330s. But after the landowner had tried shooting them all summer they seem to avoid my 330s like the plague. There is only one open water spot by the outlet of the pond. The water there was not deep enough to drown them. So I figured I'd try to use my duke 3s and long chains to catch them by the front foot at castor mound sets. I used my coyote trap and drag chain setups and pounded a 24" rebar stake through the end of the chain. It worked very well and the beaver was alive and fiesty when I arrived. He weighed almost 70lbs. The landowner just happened to be there when I was leaving and was happy to see some results after the problems the beavers were causing. This is number 3 out of this pond so far this spring. The fur may not be worth much. But the meat is worth it for me as I have three large dogs who love it. Thanks for looking. This is the long chain setup that worked great and I will be trying it again in the future. And a pic of my ugly mug. Lol.

That's a tank! Way to keep after them! Observe, adapt, and overcome.

A couple more from today. Different spot. Not real big but still fun to catch. Wish the season lasted a little longer. The waters are just opening up here.

Nice catch! Looks like a pair of slippers. Just think, you could walk around the house constantly reminded of how you kicked their tails.

TTT
Any signs of the real rat race breaking out? Sources tell me it's starting to break up around the northwest corner up there. Next week's 70s high temps will burn the ice off still waters... just in time for the rat season close :/

The run kicked off here a week ago... rats everywhere now. My contacts up north report things should be starting in earnest now.

we want pictures!!! <lol>
I know that zagman is a real pest when it comes to the annual glory shot. Don't let him fool ya... Gina is the real choreographer behind those staged scenes. Otherwise it'd just be a pile of unwashed coyotes on the lawn with two scruffy dogs fresh out of the pond muck sitting in front of them all.
