Austin, you know if you hit 2000 rats the price will fall below a dollar on average. No one can have it all! Sounds like you have it all figured out, I wish you well, hope you keep your feet dry, your canoe upright, your truck springs stressed, your fur shed warm, and your back strong. Your going to need it all! Enjoy! Must be this Ethan offered to do all the paddling! Heck I might even set a 110 or two myself this fall.

Feeling a little sorry for AJ right now....just not right dumping a partner like that.... X2 lacks tact and no respect... {press release] "While we value AJ's past contributions to the team, we feel it's in both parties best interest to part ways and seek other opportunities. At this time we wish AJ all the best and feel confident he will catch on with some other team that suits his particular skill sets most"

I'm going to contract the presale before delivery to Rockwood for $13 $15 straight average, put up by walleyed via top-lot NAFA specs. Taking John out drinking this weekend to sign the paperwork.

"2000 + season catch"...be realistic Austin, that number means being on prime muskrat waters every day of the season and doing it full time. Lets say you have 4 straight months of good trapping conditions, that's about 14 rats/day, every day over that 4 months. That doesn't happen, I speak from experience. First couple weeks you have your 25 rat days, then 15, then 6-7 day. And that's with good populations which we don't have anymore. And that's living within a reasonable distance to your trapline and commuting so you can do it every day. And you know the weather is going to mess you up, shut you down at times. Set realistic goals.

25 rat days? lol
fyi: a guy up your way has taken 2,000+ per season a couple times in the past few years... a good share of that catch off the Iroquis complex with its 25 max trap limits

You get maybe 80 days per season to trap rats now at Iroquois, setting 25 traps per day means you need to take 25 rats/day to hit 2000. Whatever Austin, good luck on your quest.

yes, why would you assume I'd catch 25 daily on the good days? I'm not restricted to number of traps used... most likely run between 200 - 300 daily when water is open. A good day's catch for me is not 25 rats. secondly, the guy I reference traps outside of the refuge and also traps up north all winter from Feb 15th thru April 15th, Muskrat season for me opens October 25th and closed April 15th, 2015. You assumed way too many limitations with your mathematics there, mac

Good luck Austin...hope you hit your goal, and learn a little about big marsh trapping in NY along the way. It ain't nothing like walking into a large pond/lake loaded with rats where you can take 50 rats or better per day for 5 days then done. You'll see. Could be a new DVD for you down the road....

oh mac u silly goose... you just like to be obstinate sometimes pretty sure I'll learn more this year than I have in the past several years combined. That's how it works. As for the terrain I'm fixing to work? You don't even have the first clue what it's like. Ask me nicely to describe it, and I will do that just for you!

I think it's possible. If guys can pull 8-1000 rats with limits ,I see no reason granted the populations and weather cooperate ,to get 2000 on and area with unlimited traps, and can pre stake runs with no competition .

When I talked with Danny Fry at Black Lake in April 2012, he was at 2,600+ rats for the season, along with his usual pile of beaver and long-hair furs. Pretty sure he broke 2,000 the year before that too, but not 100% certain

mucky bottom.......and thin ice..... shallow water, flooded fields with lots of bank dens and shallow water houses on Montezuma. I'm not on the big marsh, not that it matters because anywhere muskrats are found in numbers, we will catch them in numbers mac blathered some sort of nonsense about me not having experience on big marshes, etc or whatever that's supposed to mean. I guess 1,000 acre marshes here locally are small enough for me but 1,300 acre units on Montezuma are something otherwise? anyways, I'll wind up with somewhere between 0 and 3,000 rats between 10/25 and 4/15/15 depending on a helluva lot of factors. Considering the fact that I never set target goals, it don't matter. There is x-amount of potential and I have y-amount of ability inside z-number of variables. simple as that :>O

I've never met him, but heard he's the real deal. Unlike you and me I guess I should be happy to catch a few stragglers here & there anyways. I'll try to figure it all out as we go along thru the season <grin>
