Well this off season I modified 14 of my traps to use for coyote. I plan to run a variety of sets. I was wondering what your favorite and most effective sets are and what kind of baits and lures you use with different sets. I have plenty of coyote sign on my property and would love to catch my first one this season. Thank you for any input.

Post sets with urine and a little gland lure of your choice, a flat set, big rock, two rocks on top of each other with a lure of choice, in between the rocks ,then a big deep dirt hole with my home made wood chuck bait deep with a little sheeps wool to cover, with a little crossbones high above set on some sheep's wool on a clothes pin to keep it there .I use mostly nite owl lures and gland lures , I hope this helps the biggest part is being on location and the call lures help to draw the animals in.

I'll pass along a few pics of mine. Last year was my first year chasing them. I managed to catch a couple. This first pic is a pic of my set that I made. If you can see, I tried my best to make it look like a natural dug hole and I used blades of grass in an attempt to guide the foot to where I wanted. This set caught a coyote on the second night.

Is there a certain time of year that you use a gland lure versus a call lure, I dont have many woodchuck near me because there are so many coyotes, but I made a bait with chipmunks because they are all over my property and I figured the coyote eat them regularly.
That is a very good looking coyote camo. Congrats on your first. Hoping to get my first this season.
Thank you all for the great information.

I wish I could help you more. I'm no expert so any advice I gave would be from a whole 4 months worth of trapping in my life! I guess I would tell you to read a few books. There are some good ones out there. Charlie dobbins' "land sets and trapping techniques" is a good one. A friend of mine just sent me "catchin coyotes and other critters" by Major Boddicker. I found that to be a good one.
Just go do it is about all I can say!

I use gland lures all season at different sets I use, I run up to 80 traps on my canine line, the call lure is up high in a tree in general area to pull the canines towards your sets then you lure or bait is where you want them to go to.there are tons of books on canines that help the dobbins book is a excellent book on different sets this sitehas tons of sets in the archives to help. The best advice I can give you is be patient and dont go near sets also make shure traps are bedded solid .and trust your baits and lures and you will be successful

Sadly just a paw remaining. Fractions weren't my strong suit - felt it made more sense than 4.2
