Hello all, What's the best way to preset traps from firing? I've never done it but have read just a piece of wood under the pan? Thought it might be easier than flailing around in the mud. I have brought a board with me for a hard surface but would like to eliminate carry around the board. Many thanks, jim

Are you referring to water trapping, like for 'rats?

No, just a way to set a few traps in the basket already to go w/o having to in the field.

Never tried it, but I would use a zip tie if I was going to go that route.

On long springs you can set the trap and then under the pan put a wooden clothespin clipped on the arm of the pan. A person who trapped in the Saginaw Mi swamps said he use to set all his traps before getting in the boat. Use the type of clothespin that uses a spring to keep it closed. This person claimed to have set as many as 300 traps prior to the season this way. Learned this at a convention in Kinross Mi that is held every fall. This person had a good reputation among his fellow trappers and responded when he was questioned about how many traps he could set in a day for rats.

Huh both sound like great ideas. I will have to remember them.
