Well I had an interesting morning, 2 large Boar coon . Also my 1st ever Red Fox, I had my step son along this morning and we were way over on the far side of the farm checking traps, Ricky say's hay who's that over in the cut bean field, I said I don't know but looks like he is next to one of my fox sets. So we shoot on across to see what's up, this is the part that I got just a bit upset . There stands a Bow hunter, the same guy I talked to 3 days ago, told him I was trapping and even pointed out the sets in that bean field because he has to walk by them to get to his stand, I told him if he sees a coyote or fox or any other critter standing if the field more than likely it's in a trap, please just leave them be, I will be there shortly. SO there he stands, like a kid with his hand in the cookie jar, an arrow covered in blood in his quiver, then he says sorry but I shot the fox, I didn't know it was trapped. That's when I really really got mad, told him what an idiot he was and get the heck off this farm and don't come back I really have no right to throw him off because I'm a guest there myself but I'm sure when we talk to the farmer, my step sons father in law, he will give the kid the boot. OK I feel better now, thanks for listening. But it was still a great day.

Ya it's to bad you couldn't of caught him in the act. If more people heard of other hunters or what not people getting in trouble maybe these things might not happen as often. But on the bright side Doug sounds like your doing great on your line, keep stack em up! bmt

Pardon me, but isn't he guilty, by admission, of tampering with a legally set trap? Go the limit, turn the DEC loose on his sorry ssa. I promise you, if you don't, he'll do it again somewhere else to someone else. Nuke 'em first and fast. I learned the hard way the meaning of "nice guys finish last." Always giving guys like that the benefit of the doubt, at my peril. No more. I won't escalate, no more of the he does this, I do that, etc. game. First blood on their part, my response is NUKES. No time for playing around.
Sorry, just too much of that crap is allowed and they don't learn a tinker's nmad by letting them get away with it. He didn't know it was in a trap?!?!?! Oh, that makes it alright then...

Oh, that makes it alright then... agreed, even if DEC just confronts him , it will be enough to discourage him in the future (hopefully) and he will share his "DEC experience" with his drinking buddies, now word is out in your area that it wont be tolerated.....works in theory anyway!!

Talked with the land owner this morning, told him what happened, he knows the guy and said he will take care of him and he is not welcome anymore. So maybe I handled it right maybe not but he lost a very good hunting spot and now has a tarnished name in this area.

You did the right thing Doug. I'm still trying to imagine you getting mad lol. You seem like such a calm person. I have a short temper and probably would have jacked that dude up good. He would have never ever forgot me.

Another thing - Did he have a small game or sportsman license? If not, he should also be nailed for "taking" the fox.
