Why are castor and food lures mixed? Seems like castor would be for territory and food lure such as birch oil for for food. 2 Completely different reason for attracting beaver......right?

curiosity... cant speak for others, but like making small mud pies or taking advantage of existing castor mounds some....one thing I like to do is add a couple of small peeled bait sticks to the pie or mound for an added visual ... figure one of them will get the beavers attention... hopefully all three will seal the deal... the other part of your question is like most anything... sometimes less is more depending on the situation or circumstances you find yourself in, being prepared to adapt in a more singular way, which ever way that ends up being sure never hurts.... jim

Nov-early jan. i use a curiosity lure like poplar bud oil, birch oil, and or beaver plus..the past few years I've been using Big Sky beaver essence with some bait sticks, "poplar preferably"..also they really seem to like the little red saplings...not sure what they are but i get a bunch and tie them with some wire at bottom and stick in mud...then i scrape them to get the aroma and eye appeal going..early spring i kick the mounds in the water and make my own...i use big sky beaver lure only...I make the mound then put sticks behind the mound and take my lure on a piece of bark and put in between the sticks and mound....sometimes ill make a V-Set with sticks and surround mound, bait, and trap...only one way to the goodies is step on my trap.....
