4 or 5 rats can make that many houses, but most likely someone will trap that early which is normal in the syracuse area.

four or five rats? Are you out of your mind? There are 30+ legit houses visible and barely visible in that scene!
I saw 10 - 12 rats loafing and swimming around at high noon, basking in Saturday's sun. Next year walleyed & I are gonna combine forces, amass our steel and sweep thru that entire Syracuse area like the avian flu!!!

Wait a minute Austin,
That Avian flu thing sounds kind of unhealthy.
Couldn't we sweep through the Syracuse area like a Swarm of Mongol Horsemen annihilating every Muskrat in Our Path.
Marshrat, why the doom and gloom, you said yourself you caught over 300 muskrat and dozens of Mink this season.
I'd be tickled with a catch like that.
Joe, you'd better Enjoy it while you can because NYRAT will be putting Myself and Austin up at his house when we visit, join forces and wipe out the East Syracuse Ditch rats.
Zaggbagger is going to skip Coyotes and help us to hunt down the last East Syracuse DoDo Muskrat when November 28th rolls around.
Doom on you, Marshrat !!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It won't be worth the trip...I don't believe Mark will share his spots with either one of you.....just don't piss off RATJR..lol I get most of my rats from private property, most of the ditches have been overtrapped for years. I don't think an old guy and a cripple can keep up with RATJR....lol Not to mention you will have other people checking your sets and stealing your fur. I am still trying to figure out the stolen otter and trap mystery.

we don't do prestaking... one night of saturation-bomb setting, next day pulled and we're gone with all the goods.

Doesn't happen like that in the ditches of East Syracuse. It does happen like that on some of my private property I trap.

There will be 400 other people that will beat you to it. I cut my marsh-trapping teeth in Iroquis, Oak Orchard and Tonawanda. You could take all the Syracuse rat trappers today put together and they'd fit in one corner of the parking lot there back in early 1980s. 40, 400 or 4,000 don't matter on opening day: 7am rolls around for everyone alike

I thought you knew........they trap a month early around here, so when you show up at 7am on opening day you will be pretty ticked off like I was.

I can assure you 100% that it did not and never will happen in that rat house marsh photo earlier. Not unless they want to go to jail from day one

I hope not, I had 2 sets in an area and someone came along and put a few more in. I checked them 3 days in a row and they were set off but the other guys were still set. I know there were rats there because I watched them go into the holes every day but for some reason I didn't catch any. Come to find out later my friend was hunting in the area and watched this guy pull rats out of my sets...my friend didn't know they were mine at the time, he thought they were the other guys.

I believe there is probably a person or two that are still under the thought that when beaver is open, rats are too. I can't prove it so I don't whine about it.

They made the mistake of leaving a stake in last year so it wasn't hard to figure out, plus they were seen setting the night before opening day.
